So I took my 1985 Honda Lead 125 out for the first time at the weekend and it went really well, engine pulled strongly all the way up to max revs.

The issue is that I was creating a smoke screen behind me, not a little bit of 2 stroke smoke but a full on 80's disco can't see a thing smoke!

My first guess is that there is a build up of 2 stroke oil in the exhaust and its the first time its got properly hot in a number of years. It kept smoking a bit after I turned off the engine that's why I'm leaning towards the exhaust as it if was the engine it would have stopped straight away, plus if the engine was worn wouldn't it smoke from cold rather than only when hot?

Any suggestions or comments appreciated, if you think it's oil in the exhaust what's the best way to get it out?

    Cheers,
    Andy

oil in the pipe remedy is just keep riding it to burn it out fast.

another sign is ring wear, when rings start to go some of that lube oil gets drawn to cyclinder and burns, a compression test would put mind to rest the rings are on way out , and then it just leaves you to the oil in pipe theory

Thanks for the info, I will get my friend to test the compression for me.
The issue with riding it to burn it out is that it's so smokey I would get pulled over within 10 minutes and it's hardly fair to other road users, it's like a thick fog!

If I carefully heated the exhaust with a blow torch would that work well enough?

adding to much heat will burn out the baffles as the oil will self combust. its what we used to do to remove the baffles in bikes and burn out the carbon deposits , we would use a hot air gun and blow the heat through the pipe until it combusted then keep it going to flame out the pipe and burn the carbon crap , problem is if its an old pipe you can cause damage due to the unseen rust inside causing weak spots and blow throughs when its refitted.

maybe park it up end of yard set bbq alight then run the scoot on idle as it heats up it should smoke out the oil residues .
