Hi guys first thread! Got a 2004 ay50 and when I start it I get loads of white smoke which get worse if you give it some throttle, it's been off the road since 2012 if that helps Any ideas? Cheers
drain both oil and petrol tank, clean carb, fill up with fresh oil and petrol. used to happen on a few of my peds when ive let them sit for more than a week.
are you sure your putting the right oil in too? never came across oil that's strawberry scented before.......
Common problem. The oil seal has gone on the pump. When it's left standing for more than a day the oil seeps into the crankcase. Take the oil pump out from the top of the engine and you will see a rubber seal in the bottom. Thats the bit that needs to be replaced. It should burn off after a few minutes, just let it tick over (outside) and you will gradually see it disappear. You will want to clean the plug as well. You can live with it, but most people just run premix instead, me personally, i change the oil seal; or you can get another pump.
Sweet, standard part or will it be a different size on the suzuki?, as for the oil it's putoline off eBay says for 2stroke scooters on the bottle
Standard part. Before you prise it out the pump, grab a magnifying glass and have a look at the number on it. Go to Simply Bearings.co.uk and find that oil seal and order from there, dirt cheap but very good for bearings and oil seals. Alternatively your main suzuki dealer might have one, but more than likely they will want to sell you a new pump. The AY50 Katana always had this problem, it's nothing major. Just done the one i'm renovating.
Mine are solid!, brought some off a scrappy for £35 so gonna do that over winter ( and a wheel bearing) then go for my cbt in spring
Not long had to break one of these, sold it to the kid, via his dad, had it 10 days and wrote it off; hadn't even got the papers back from dvla in his name. Lovely looking bike as well it was. Dont forget to change the steering bearings while your in there. Can guarantee that when you take the forks out the old ones will just drop apart all over the floor!!!! And they dont cost much any way.
The steering bearings. Ball bearings top and bottom of the forks. Makes for a smooth turning action. No bearings equals no steering. Take a look at this from CMS, it should give you an idea of what you are looking at. http://www.cmsnl.com/suzuki-ay50-1999-x_model13123/partslist/FIG39.html#results It is a 1999 model ay50 but i'm pretty certain not much changed frame wise but check with your dealer first. You need 25 ball bearings in the top and 30 in the bottom. They fit into a cage and run in cups top and bottom of the forks.
