Ok so riding 18km none stop at WOT the sccot cuts out.....why? For the past 2 days I have noticed that the beast hasnt been hitting 10K anymore and stopping at 9-9.1K.....so i knew something was wrong. Anyway, after it died on me I tried to start it but the piston must have been jammed cos the electric start turned over once then stopped....should have tried the kick starter to get a better feel. So i started pushing and about 5 minutes later i tried the started and it cranked but to no avail. So sitting on it rolling down the hill i tried it once more and it fired back up..... So I was wondering, could the cast iron cylinder have gotten so hot that it "jammed" the piston? or what else then? and is it good to drive still? thanks folks PS , gana check the plug tomorrow....and try see what went wrong without stripping the motor cos I need it for transport on monday.
could of quite easily heat sezied, cooled down and released it self enough to start again, id be whipping the head of if it was me and be checking for damage. espec if its started loosing power. sure sign the rings are on there way out!
m8, yopu aint riding that monday. the rings are now fucked. it was worn, youve ragged it with worn rings, this has probably scored the barrel beyond belief. strip it, replace anything marked. if its not running right dont ignor it nexxt time. easy really.. if it aint broke dont fix it, if it is broke dont ignore it!!
yeah the rings were worn...so is it a case of new rings/piston and a rebore? What can be done about heat seizures?
guessing its air cooled, if so check the fan covers are in place/not broken, there are no air leeks, no build up in the exhaust.. just sounds like the rings were worn an youve ignored it, fucked the piston against the wall of the cylinder) this causes lots of heat, causing a sieze, new rings barrel an piston (forget a rebore) an it should be fine. jus check the oil seals arnt weaping now that i think of it.. did it sound atall funnny at idle? or just completly normal dindt want to rev then went bang?
well maybe 2 weeks ago the idleing had dropped very low...to a point where it would cut out after a minute or so.....Othere than that and the fact that it stopped revving to what it did on the straight it was normal...... So rebore nnot an option-kinda on a budget. and yup it's AC....flip shouldn't have neglected it.
if the electric start wasent enough to start but it would go wiht a hard kick an a bit of throtle yet faild to idle then ye, you wore the rings badly.. whip it off, take some pics of the side of the piston an the cylinder wall and ill tell you why it blew
well if it would help the diagnostic proccess...i ported it in december to a BD of 32.5....and it ran like a dream-no scooter could catch it on top end... I have to do it on the weekend then....I come out of school and go straight to work.....FUCK it! Ok maybe I should just try pull it tomorrow. What would the difference in barrel appearance be between one that needs a rebore and one that needs replacing? I didnt try the kickstart....But literally 8 minutes between when it died I was riding it down the hill and did a u turn and came back up and parked it...
as its an ac when it was ported did the ehxuast port get a straight flat roof or did it have a curve top edge to utilize blowdown??
prittyy simple... if you cant figure out simple running issues or identify problems/failures why are you porting barrels?
Im porting barrels cos stock is not good enough. I know I had to get new rings a while a go. And I was saving for a piston and rings and a re bore. And it ran like nothing in my city....ate the other scoots big time on top end! And I was guided by a respected tuner in netherlands. So dont try rip on me as if im some kid who just takes a dremmel and hacks away. Obviously if theres heat seizures i got a problem, but thought that there could be something else to it. But whatever, if you oaks want to be dicks about it then thats fine. Just remember the guys that helped you when you first started tuning too.
it was a question m8, your taking it the wrong way as you fel in the wrong for playing.. i was meerly saying fine, do what you like with your bike.. but should you be atempting things like this (even under instruction) if you dont know how to listen to the bike... this well respected tunner from holland, did he listen to the bike down the phone an tell you you did it right? i remember your post about this... an that info could have come from ANY minimoto website (if you read back i even said its all well an good people passing around majic fformula's for barrels.. it AINT that simple) im trying to help.. to be a cunt would be to simply iognore this thread... whip it apart.. the learning process begins. get some pics up, ill tell you why i think it faild. could well just be worn rings (what i been saying) would you have a dentest do a tripple corinary bypass? no... and why? not because he doesent understand the procedure... more the fact he has never done it wrong so when the shit hits the pan its clueless city... get it apart, have a look, we will help. i might be a cunt 99% of the time. but im helpfull 99.5% of the time with it so hey. im ALL for people trying/learning to port. you HAVE to expect failures tho.. this sounds unrelated all the saem, just seems strange for you to be working on a barrel, yet asking questions about somthing as simple as obviously worn rings, ignoring this fact (on your ported barrel) blowing it up then wondering why.. as for the people who helped me? who was that then? im self taught. didnt read a single manual for the first few years, then i fucked up hundreads of engines throughout my childhood...slowly learning what i was doing wrong. THIS is how i learnt. and it took ALOT longer than it would have if i could have just asked... so ye, dont jump to the conclusion im trying to strikje you down. im only trying to help..
that there is the truest saying ive ever heard! as said find out why it blew, then rebuild it faster and stronger!!
ok sweet...well i figure there is going to be heat seizure marks in it but gana try flat them out....might consider a new barrel if its needed. But i'll try post pictures... Shot for the help fellas...appreciate it-ill keep you guys posted tonight
generally, if your doing miles on an engine do what ive started doing (just cant leave anything alone see) grab a spare engine.. have it literally ready to sling in the bike (wheel on, pipe on, everything) then its 2 bolts a brake a couple wires and simply dropping it in place (i run premix wich makes it alot easier for engine swaps, altho in any case the carb can stay in place, just remove the oil pump and carb intact from the bike) this way you can play all you like, get home wiht a broken bike, do an hours work an drive to work tomorrow. then fix the engine when your not swearing throwing things and "really in need of this bike for work" i found by rushing/doing things i know were wrong to "jus get me to work" its cost me alot more in the long run.. havent even needed the spare engine yet, but you get the idea
thats actually quite a good idea. Well i reckon i'll hit the reliable bus for the week....and then sort it out from there. I'm really dreading the costs I'll have to pay for a barrel and kit. Maybe I should try the malossi 120cc big bore?
im in the same club as you m8, ive got 2 scooters and not 1 is working at the minute... I too have had to resort to getting the bus to work :tdwn: The only good side to it is, the weathers been too crap lately for riding scooters
weather is glorious where i am, hasent been wet atall in 3 days now (as in dry roads, cold air, no wind and sunny blue sky's... ie perfect riding conditions) LOVIN it
