im looking at replacing the crankshaft and bearings while i have the engine split on a gilera dna50. Browsing ebay i have found a supplier from poland but you get lots more for your money. All bearings, seals and all engine gaskets for less than another crankshaft only deal. Has anyone had bad experience from buying cheaper ebay deals. Im rebuilding on a budget but dont want to buy rubbish so how do i tell whats good and bad when they all look the same? Good deal or bad product?

To add further detail the seller is called moto-story1 with complete kit for £60 Other crankshafts are selling from £80 or so from reputable suppliers. Whats a good make to look out for and who should i avoid.

Never purchased from poland before , so cannot really say anything about that seller , i would say check the sellers feedback posts see if they have a good rep, read them all the poor and good so you can get an overal judgement on risk .

I've bought from Poland. Same comparible quality it's just cheaper over there.
You'll find they sell the same brand stuff as ebay uk.

Poland is in the EU so no import charges. I've never had a problem ordering from Poland/Germany/France and they often get here in 3-5 days.
You should click the EU box when doing searches for scooter stuff as there is often more choice from the continent .
Yes check postage costs. As happens here some are more expensive than others.

If you buy anything from the EU it's no different than buying from the UK.
I bought a used stand for my Honda CN250 from Italy and it was like new as they don't get salt on the roads like we do.
I have noticed that some prices have risen due to the exchange rate but make the most of it while we are still in the EU unless we come to a free trade agreement lol

Just do a comparison on prices/brands with the UK but watch out for postage as some keep the item price low but jack up the postage.
It happens here as well so pause before pressing buy it now lol
A lot of the German scooter shops are great especially if you have something a bit out of the ordinary.
They generally have a choice of flags to press for translations on their web pages.
I wouldn't bother buying things like brake pads or filters but significant savings can be made on parts.

Shane (ukguy) knows nothing about anything, he doesnt know his head from his a-hole. In fact i think they could be one and the same thing...
    Anyway...
Piaggio tend to use cheap parts anyway, as long as you fit it properly and inspect it first it should be ok.
These days everything is made in china and rebadged as different brands, but its all the same shit really.
I always buy cheap parts, as here in norway the branded stuff is double the price of the uk!
Good luck with the rebuild and have fun!

What makes me laugh is stuff like harly, it says made in america, but all the parts are made everywhere else, then assembled in the states...

With ref to buying outside the UK:
Purchased within the EU states, there is NO IMPORT DUTY TO PAY.
Purchase from outside the EU states, anything over £35 attracts duty @ 20%
For example, from France, Italy, Greece, Poland etc, no extra charge, just higher postage costs.
From USA, over £35 after the conversion from dollars to sterling, import duty payable, plus high postage costs
