Anybody who has removed a baffle is sure to know how unbelievably loud it can get. Such is the problem I am having. I love my Akrapovic end can, but with baffle in it is not exactly what the level I was looking for. With it out, I can be heard a mile away so it is too loud (and that's an understatement!), regrettably missing the extra kick of power with it out. Has anyone ever experimented successfully with the shortening of the baffles inner pipe? Or is it really something that is too delicate to mess with?
What exactly are you trying to achieve? A noisy annoying the neighbours type exhaust or an exhaust that improves the performance of the scooter?
Performance with the scooter is great, that is not the issue. The sound with the baffle in is nice enough but if it was possible to give it a little more grunt. I was enquiring if anyone has experience with shortening the lenght of the baffle pipe to turn up the grunt a small notch. Basically cut off am inch of the baffle pipe insert to decrease the lenght thus increasing db output a small bit without it being the "annoying the neighbour type exhaust". Points of view? Any experiences with doing this?
afew years back i modded a Doppler S3R exhaust endcan/baffle i took out the fiber wadding and wrapped a thin layer of sheet metal tightly round the pipe that runs through the baffle only covering the first half of the pipe and then covered it with the fiber wadding, this made my scooter sound abit louder and it had more of a 'ting ting' motorcross sound.. this was abit of a bodge but it didnt harm my engine, you might need to try different lenghts to get the sound rite.
I would have thought that they tried different pipe lengths when making it and found the length it is to be perfect for sound/ power output.
Tbh Louder the better as there so many idiot drivers out these days if you get pulled by police for noise level ask them this question Could you hear me and ackwoledge that i was there if so thats a good thing, to many idiots now a days dont look out for bikes so louder the better
