figured you lot would be the best people to ask about this. basically a while a go i bought a cheap k and n 'style' air filter, upjetted from 65 to 105 and it was awful, as soon as it got a bit damp it would bog down and stall. I have heard that a two stroke needs back pressure in the air intake, which is the reason for an air box. would i be better getting a malossi sponge for my air box, and upjetting accordingly, or should i get something like this: http://www.pedparts.co.uk/polini-performance-air-filter-36mm-2030032-377-p.asp and upjet accordingly? just wondered which one is ACTUALLY better. info on my bike: Aprilia SR 50 R Carb 2005. Leo Vince TT exhaust Stage 6 sport pro variator with 6.25 g rollers (may swap to 6g soon) Kevlar drive belt 65 main jet running on premium unleaded (if that makes a difference) thanks a lot!
or would this be better? to protect from dirt and damp etc: http://www.pedparts.co.uk/malossi-race-air-filter-covered-384-p.asp
just put the sponge in your standard airbox mate, for what mods your running the standard airbox is fine... also remember the crappy weather that will be coming soon, sucking all that rain, etc in through an open filter.liam
yh im changing to my ugly airbox soon as the weathers shitty...was also thinking of proper winter tires..and you dont really need an open filter seeing as your setup isnt being deprived of air.. also ditch the premium unleaded..it actually makes your bike run WORSE..its made for high compression engines..i.e. the evo 8..HAS to run with premium as do alot of other high performance cars but on a scoot no mater how good ur spec is it just wont burn properly or as good as the regular octane gas our peds love
