On my moped the screw which holds the exhaust on (exhaust bracket) has snapped and half of the screw is stuck in the screw hole, I will pay cash to anyone who can come and fix it as I use the moped to get to and from work and have been paying out money for buses everyday so just want it fixed as soon as. I am in the manchester area.

if theres some thread sticking out, give it a good soak with wd40 overnight and then clamp some large mole grips on the thread VERY TIGHT. Put a screwdriver thro' the gap in the jaws of the moles and use it as a lever to turn out the thread

or if you've got access to some heat (blowlamp) warm the surrounding case as you turn it

you can spot those who have never driled a bolt out of a hole... drilling a bolt out of an iron or even worse ali kit is near impossible by hand, they usually snap anything other than flat, need a GOOD centrepunch to even line the bit up then a steady hand to drill right down the centre, even then once its drilled you re tap it to what siz? one up? no....

you drill a small hole down the centre of the hole then ether use a left handed wood screw or stud extractor to wind the old hollow bolt out, then the thread is fine. if you tap over the top of the same size tap it leavs fuck all metal/weak thread.

other option is flatten off the remaning bolt ether side and get some plires on it (if you can) ali you can blast weld over the top of the bolt (wont melt to the ali if its steel weld/mig at low current) then grab the blob of weld wiht plires and unwind..

drilling bolts is HARD work and usually requires tapping larger then a helicoil to reduce the diameter of the thread. its the LAST option you wanna try

Good advice but I have drilled half of the screw out until my drill bit snapped but once I have drilled it all out what will I need to do so that I can put a new screw in as the thread in the screw hold is gone someone said about re-taping the hole ? how is this done ?
