    Hi, Garry Atkinson here....

    1996 Zip SP

Malossi MHR Brake pads and linings
    Venhill Brake hose
    Malossi RS24 Suspension
    Schwalbe Paceman tires
    Malossi DERC Tacho and logger

    Lights, stand etc removed.

Malossi MHR 70cc 7 port cylinder kit c2002
Malossi Team MHR Crank / 85mm Rod
    Malossi Derc Ignition
    Malossi MHR Team Exhaust
Malossi over range kit 105% spring 2.9g rollers
    Dellorto 26mm carb
Malossi MHR reed cage and block

THe bike is quite old in fact I think the newest thing is the cylinder at c2002 which really needs updating, however we have had minimal time to get it sorted and up to spec for this season.

I am hoping to use some Stage 6 components on the rebuild instead of Malossi which IMHO are very expensive for what they are, such as team crank £650!

    Thanks

No mate, I went in at the deep end, I purchased a race Zip SP and turned up at Mallory park on the 27th March for practice!

I've never raced a bike before in my life so to go into this was / is quite scary!

The bike had been stood for 5yrs so it needed refreshing, we have not had time to alter much but we will be doing as the game has moved on in that time and we need to keep up.

loving the mk1 zip.. have to agree with the price of the malossi parts. WAY overpriced. nothing to rip apart here, proper speced up peice of kit and one of the best lookin scoots ever. few years ive wanted to get into track racing but it seemd such a dwindeling sport. who knows, might have to purchace a zip and throw a couple bits at it :D
keep it up boys ;) cant wait to see the new engine (doi we get internal pics or am i just being cheeky?) :D

There will be some pics coming but first of all we will get the old girl dyno'd and see what it can do, I'll get a video of that put onto YouTube for anyone who wants to see, no-one knows what the engine is like inside, it may well be a right mess and I will end up getting some new crankcases and starting afresh.

Fingers crossed I don't, this is not a cheap game.

It was built by Ian and Terry (rip) Frankland of Taffspeed fame, sadly after Terry passed away the bike was stood and never ran until I offered to purchase it. I have no information on the engine really except for what I can see externally so I have no idea of internal mods, porting etc...

    That'll explain it then ;)

I was reading about Terry frankland in an old Twist and go mag, a good while ago...

was an article about him and his tuning, before he died, RIP.

110% agree on the downhill part. I got my fingers burnt buying this bike and I will not be having anymore to do with them ever again. Sad, but thats how it is.

I am not prepared to discuss any further on a public forum.
