I hope that you meant "Almost 40 on a flat and did ten miles to work..." I'm glad that we got there in the end. Result!
Well, not all good news, have a fuel leak somewhere, possibly gasket seal needs replacing or one of the fuel lines is not connected properly, easy fix. I did however notice a drop in oomph and whilst looking for leak noticed the top of the carb had loosened off and a bit of the diaphragm had snook out. I'm sure I tightened them off but no harm done, tighten them again and resolve fuel leak...
If you get no further hassles in the next week or two, I wouldn't go spending out on a new carb. If the screws keep working loose, get some medium strength thread locker and dab some on the threads.
Alternatively, ask the Missus/Mum (as applicable) for some clear nail varnish and paint a dab that covers the screw head and the body - it will hold it in place once it's dry.
Still leaking somewhere but only when the tank is fuller. I have bought some fuel resistant gasket sealant...
