Okay so my scooter has never broke down and ive had it for 6 months its a yamaha neos 2001 50cc air cooled Anyway last week I rode it to college it was fine as usual and after college it started and bogged out and wouldst start for the life of it had to get picked up The day after that me and my step dad took out the spark plug and cleaned it because it was quite wet and tested for a spark it had a good one then put it back in and it run fine The day after it worked for college but when i rode into town it wouldn't start it just started the revs were fluctuating from what sounded like 2-5000 rpm and it cut out Now it starts ticks over at the right rpm but as soon as you give it revs its starts spluttering all over the place i had to ride home from town at about 7mph, Its not really reacting to choke im aware choke could be stuck on Ive never had a Problem with this ped Its allmost as if the problems have happened since i refueled at tescos the day before the problems my step dad said you can get a bad batch of fuel if the tanks are low? Im back at college on wednesday and could use some help Otherwise im back on the bus Cheers Now its got A Good Spark Fuel Going into the Carb Ive messed with fuel/air ratio doesn't help
Okay My Parents are away so im going to start stripping the bike tomorrow its naked as it stands faring wise Going to Go to Halfords tomorrow New Spark Plug Fresh Fuel Clean carb Blow out jets etc Everything On the Transmission Side looks And works how it should cheers for replys
The reeds sit under the inlet manifold, unscrew the manifold and the reed block pulls out. The reeds should be intact no chips splits or fraying, hold the block up to light and look through it, you shouldnt see any light leaking past the reeds...
Hey guys Returning with news Ive stripped it totally took carb off drained fuel Plug out all the usual Got to the reed block cant see any light at all through it but when i turn the engine over with the block off What Looks like Dust comes through Or should i say Smoke it comes through with the reedblock on aswell? not as much but you can see smoke coming back up through the inlet manifold when im kicking it (no plug or anything) Fuel Looked clean but going to get some more anyway and a new plug just incase you never know Anyone shed some light on the Reedblock problem?
I would also Like to add that when i took the fuel line off i put a clamp on it when i went to empty fuel out a little bit came out and it stopped there was half a tank in i was like... So i had to kick it over to drain the tank one kick was a shoot of fuel so it took about 500 kicks just to empty it lol, I know they work on vacuumes etc but is this right?
you did actually take the reed block out of the engine, and look through it holding it to the light up above didnt you ?
Yeah took it outside And looked at the sun through it, Nothing but pitch black Ive just put a brand new spark plug in and its still doing it hmmm Video soon
have you checked that the fuel tap is operating properly, and fuel is reaching the float bowl... have you checked that the float needle is moving up and down freely is connected to the float, and the float is hinged properly with the float pin and also the float is not punctured....and the jets are free of obstruction. have you checked the float bowl is seated properly and not leaking. have you checked theres no air leaks on the inlet manifold, and that the throttle is connected to the throttle slide...have you checked the air filter is not blocked or excessively dirty or wet. have you checked that theres a good reliable spark, and that the engine isnt flooded with fuel and theres plenty of compression.....
Ive checked everything you said, everything is fine, the only thing possible things next is a cdi problem or cracked cases
Aha cracked it, Was a build up of issues fuel had water in it thats why it wouldnt start And the Bogging problem isnt carb related as we put a spark tester on the ht lead while the plugs in to test the spark while its running and when the bike boggs the spark light dies Hence its a Ignition related problem not carb related, at least the carb got a well needed clean anyway, Im pretty sure its the ht lead breaking down or the coil, ill return with info tomorrow once i fit a new ht lead thanks
