I have acquired an exhaust system, from a 50cc 4 stroke scooter, and was wondering if it would work with a 50cc 2 stroke engine....would there be a performance issue ? ......with a bit of fettling it could be made to fit, but I don't want to go to that trouble if it's not gonna work properly.....any thoughts welcomed.......

It probably would work but it might ruin the CAT if it's got one fitted due to the extra emissions a 2 stroke engine emits.

That's a shame, as it's a more than half decent silencer.....the one that's on at the moment is not too bad, it just has a small split in the pipe....I may be able to wrap it, failing that a new one I think......

You should have a quick read about 2t pipes. Vastly different from 4t ones. Four stroke pipes pretty much just silence and filter out gasses. 2t ones do a whole lot more, it's fascinating actually, the way pulses from the pipe create a sort of vacuum....
I've wondered for a long time how an expansion chamber would work on a 4 stroke...

Just repaint it. Maybe you can reuse that chrome thingy on your old one

Looks like a new exhaust system is in order.....just discovered that the front pipe, just down from the manifold, has a crack in it........better start saving........

Ha ha. Lucky scooter parts are relatively cheap compared to working a motorcycle or car. There are some aftermarket exhaust that doesnt cost a fortune. Maybe also gives a little extra power

    Scooter attack I guess?
Shop around and you will find one for about 50 or so. What motor is it? Morini?

So the new exhaust is on order.....coming from Germany, and will be a couple of weeks, so this may be a little premature......when fitting it, is it good practice to use a sealant ?.....some sort of high temp. stuff at the manifold ?.....any thoughts welcomed.....

Copper grease to hold the gasket in place and on the bolts.
Thank me in a year when you take it off again

It's grease, but copper based. Well worth buying. You can use it on battery terminals and all sorts. Essentially it's to stop bolts rusting tight. But you can use it on electrical connectors too.
I buy a big tub each year, use it on my car wheel nuts too...
