so come out to start the bike up nothing tried but nothing, tried electric and kick start but nothing but noticed electric start was not making the usual click sound but very faint realised it's prob the battery failing, tried again today electric start gives nothing, dead and when I put the indicators on the headlight flashes, so pretty sure it's the battery going to try and jump start it tomorrow to confirm my suspicions. Any recommendations on new 12v scooter batteries? need a cheap but decent one. How long to these batteries last anyways? Bikes about 20 years old done about 4,500 miles but only bought it with a 1000 on the clock and have no idea if the battery was ever replaced. So I take it once the battery goes that's it time for a new one?
Batterys should be replaced every few years from what I understand and when they go they are usually done for but if you have a multi meter pop it on and see what it reads it could just want a top up and a long trickle charge
Wrong We use powerline batteries and swear by them cost around £20 Edit : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Powerline...365737?hash=item54042dd669:g:Z1kAAOxyUrZS55jg
again wrong never had to charge a Powerline battery weve always just fitted them and gone for a long ride afterwards never had any issues theyre marked ready to fit for a reason because they are ready to fit when they arrive accy dont give advice if you dont know what your talking about bud
That's what I thought but the previous owner hardly used it so can't see him replacing it as was sat in a garage most of the time
thats because those batteries are ACID FILL batteries READY TO FIT batteries are just that for crying out loud
they say that to get more sales but if it has a cap slot ontop you can sometimes refill them using distilled water or proper battery acid and putting them on a trickle charge with how little batteries cost nowadays its not worth doing anymore
So what's the difference as mine on the scooter is supposed to maintenance free so I took that to be that are they different types?
my personal fav is old acid batteries, ive used yuasa ones and never had problem, and they have seen some serious conditions like -15 or so...
accy, your a twat. gel and dry cells are ready to use, i know this, im a motorcycle mechanic, its my job. and 80% is more than enough to start a bike...
he must be right though.. google told him so! I mean forget the four years I spent getting a level 3 qualification in Motor vehicle maintenance and repair + the 10 years before that I spent messing with bikes with the family
