Alright guys, well Ive been speaking to the local dealer today about this runner 180 thats been sitting in their yard for yonks with a stupidly high price tag.

But anyways im getting it cheap, deposit paid today. And because its a 180 I need to get it re-reg'ed as a 125, anyway thats sorted.
The dealership know someone with a vx125 who wants to upbore, hence just swap topends with mine if the boy will settle for a second hand 180kit.
If not, im going to pay out and have a brand new 125cc topend fitted anyway, then they will send off everything to the dvla and the logbook should come back to me as a 125.

But Im just wondering how will the new 125cc topend cope with the 180 gearing and 180 variator? Also, 180 cdi unit rev limiter is lower, and I think the 180 has a bigger carb (29mm if I remember correctly). Also unsure if the 180 head (valves) are different size? Im guessing they will be so probably need a 125 head aswell?

Im thinking its either gonna go like a stabbed rat, or crawl along not being man enough to pull the gearing?

Either way, I will end up with a 200cc engine eventually.

are you mad. dont you know a friendly garage if so buy it and get it re reged elsewhere  so they will fit a 180 kit to a kids 125 but wont sort you out even though you have just brought a bike from them :pale:

I dunno monty, Ive asked around when I had my old 180.. None of them would take a score to write a recipt for me, I kinda got the impression that im actually gonna have to change the bore.

Do you know anyone who can do that for me? Just write out a recipt to say a 125cc bore is fitted? Il give em a score! lol

no discussing illegal registration/illegal licencing, illegal taxation, fraud and insurance invalidation/fraud..... sort your bike out how you wish, with whatever consequence it carry's. your a free man afterall... dont discuss illegal activity on here, for our sake AND yours (duh)

    could just do your test.

Im doing it legally minor. Having logbook re reg'ed and using original engine so numbers match the v5. My question was about using a 125bore on a 180engine

ive been told the laws have changed now anyway and that they have to come and asses the bike rather than sending them some paper?

ofc if your genuinely chnaging the barrell to a 125 then you should have no problems

ok, as you said the gearings longer, the cdi is different and theres a different layout decompressor on the 180... all this will equate to a verry sluggish bike... find a 125 kit, fit it yourself, book it in to wimbeldon dvla for an inspection (wont take them 5 mins) and its sorted, they sighn off your v5 there and then. they wanna see the bikes wiht reduced cc as its an easy way of evading tax...

Great news guys! been talking to the dealership today, the boy with the 125 wants to swap topends with my bike, and the garage arnt gonna charge me a penny they are charging the other dude for the labour.

He also knows someone who re-registers bikes in dvla wimbledon, they will come to the shop and inspect my bike, then write off the logbook as a 125!

Saves me mucking about! bikes a gooden, 20,000miles, bit tatty little bit of rust on engine mounts, rear shocks, paint flaking on front forks, nothing that cant be soughted, been sitting since 2007 and it started almost straight away with a fresh battery.

Cant wait to get to work on smartening it up, panels are good nothing broken and paint aint too bad so mite just re-spray the forks, fit bi-turbos and clean up and re-spray the engine mounts and silent block

Then maybe a ride flat out to brighton and back!

your missing the point.... you will then have a 180 engine wiht a 125 kit.. so you wont be going far atall... sluggish, over rich, completly wrong cdi.. decompressor and allsorts...

yes its legal, now sort the bike out proper... or tell them to just swap out the entire engine (less work) and cdi, swap the lock sets over so the keys work wiht the cdi and tadaa, sorted. no bodged up 180..

Yea you got a point there, but I would rather the 180 gearing etc, because it wont stay a 125 forever I just want to ride it on a cbt, hopefully find a low mileage 200 engine for it or re-build the old engine with a 180 or 200 topend.

I know its alot of mucking about but im getting most of this work done for nothing anyway the bike and all the work and re-registration is costing 700quid, its got a £1100 price tag on it but im a regular customer and I managed to knock em down because of the rust on engine mounts, rusty shocks. just wants tarting up abit

I will probably do the test at some point but certainly dont wanna be doing what I done on my last 180, riding without any insurence at all.. Would atleast like to have a 125 logbook and insurence even tho the engine is a 180.

And yea its gonna be the bike its ment to be.. No bodging and no tuning here Ive had one of these bikes before and im quite happy with the standard performance. Maybe get a pipe but not engine tuning, just standard 180/200 parts. Going to spend most of my money on tarting it up, and maybe some visual bits and bobs nothing too teenagerish Im keeping standard panels.

no, your insurance is invalidated as its not a 125... your paying the wrong tax so thats tax evasion... your basicly planning on breaking the law... so once again ima lock this.. do your test and dont discuss illegal activity's on the site...
