hi my standard Gilera 180 2t was running fine in summer but now it’s cold it’s a nightmare to start

It starts for a second or two then cuts out I’ve changed the auto choke for a manual as I thought it would be that but it’s made no difference once it’s running it runs like a dream and starts first time once warmed up the plug is only 500 miles old and looks clean when removed please can anyone help it sort of seems like fuel starvation but then I guess it would happen all the time thanks appreciate any reply’s

The battery seems fine I’ve got it plugged into a trickle charger and it turns over perfectly it does seem easier to kickstart but it’s defiantly not flat would the battery cause this issue ? As I say once warm it’s fine it’s only when it’s cold ?

Raise the carb slide needle by moving the circlip down one slot

The rear bulb trick was to not use 21w power as it drains the battery, as it hasn't altered anything I'll have another think on it!

Unscrew the black top off the carb, lift it out and you'll see a brass needle, squeeze the spring up to release needle. You'll see a tiny "E" clip at the top and notches, with the point down move the E clip down one notch, this will richen the mixture.
    Reed petals worn?

Hi marsh I did that moved the clip down a notch but it didn’t seem to make any difference it started for a second or 2and cuts
The clip was one notch down from the top so now it’s on the third notch down is that about right ? I’ve got a brand new Ngk br9eix that I’m going to gap and fit tomorrow so il let you know how it goes and thanks for ur help pls let me know about needle position

    I've just had a thought
    This is a 180 2 stroke
It needs very good compression to start properly, around 150psi if i remember rightly.
Get a compression tester, or borrow one if you, and get the compression reading
These bikes will start and run with less, but grudgingly.

Take carb/inlet manifold off and you'll see the reed block, small thin sheet either metal or carbon, check for gaps or fraid edges, It's basically a one way valve.
