Thought it would be best to try and construct some sort of thread showing the progress of this bike which I've owned for about 6 months now. Never had a scoots before (more out of choice) so thought it would be handy to zip through the traffic on the commute to uni.

Have to apologize for the lack of pictures at the beginning as i didn't even know of this forums existence. I will try to explain things in words then lol

Bought the runner 180 for £1200 and it was in near mint original condition with lots of receipts for services, garaged from new. It had and still has the stainless Scorpion exhaust and i noticed at the time the forks were a little leaky but thought nothing of it. This is the only picture I have access to atm the day I bought it

Hacked about on it for a while and was pleased with its performance (for what it is) and was much more usable than the SR125 I had been using. I travel 210 miles a week in all weathers and thats pretty much flat out duel carriageway riding most of the way. I was getting 54.3mpg worked out over 3 tanks of juice, I can live with that.

Over the next few weeks abuse the suspension front and rear became a problem. The rear had 20mm lateral movement and the forks contained no damping oil and bottomed out constantly. One morning the H.T lead became loose on the plug and it broke down. A roadside repair got me to a shop where i discovered the plug, lead and cap had virtually melted so they were all replaced. After this the bike was never the same and a slight misfiring could be felt during acceleration. Not being able to afford missing lectures I took it off the road and stripped it down.
Found the water pump was knackered, swing-arm bushes almost non existent, forks were totally irreparable. Now theres an excuse to play with go faster bits.......
Very messy cant really see much but its a photo

New Vx forks were an option but hardly brilliant, so swallowed a big bill for Malossi F32's and whoop disc. Chucked them in with new head bearings. Yes still need to blast and paint caliper!

Now I should point out before some wise ass chirps up saying I could have bought this or done that, the bike is purely to get me from A to B quickly, cheaply and comfortably. Im not going in for racing, shows or pimp my ride uk. If I wanted big power I would have bought another R1. It gets looked after carefully to maintain its condition but gets ridden to its maximum potential. If it breaks it will be fixed properly. The only plans for this bike are to keep it as mint as i can whilst making gentle improvements to its performance.

Right now thats out the way back to the project....
Whilst investigating the water pump leak i foung the main bearing had a little too much play for my liking so engine out, stripped down and bead blasted the cases in my cabinet. Engine looks like new (although ive forgotten to do the tranny cover lol)
    BEFORE:

AFTER: forgot to take proper picture so heres one with the new crank going in...

so you can guess im putting a better crank in then to cope with my high rev durations. Its a 52mm Mazzucchelli Corsa race Crank.

I washed the hell out of the cases 3 times with a hot jetwash and then blew dry with airline. Not flowing the cases at this stage, that can be done another day when I can afford an expert to do it.
Also got a few other goodies to bolt on,
Malossi 172 kit with head, carbon reeds, malossi filter, pm swingarm kit, pm engine bush kit, malossi 14/43 gear up kit, white contra spring, new 15.5 rollers (already had them)

Got all the bits fitted but the gears took some serious tonnage to get on. Ended up maching a tool to hold square in the press. Dont try and do this if you dont know what you are doing. You will screw up the gear and the shaft, they are really tight!

Stripped carb and raised needle, cleaned and reassembled.

Obviously the bike needs setting up by an expert as i want its full potential. So put the whole thing back together, fixed the wobbly headlight but adding a pre-tensioning spring internally, added fuel and off it went. :yahoo:
Those that read the other thread will know the problems i had next but to cut a long story short the bike ran for 50mins fine then refused to spark :banghead: In the end it was a knackered stator so a new unit was fitted. Bike was taken to a dyno for jetting and roller settings.

    so bike spec is currently:
    Malossi F32's and whoop disc
    Malossi CDI
    Malossi 172 barrel and head
    Malossi carbon reeds
    Malossi filter element
    Malossi 14/43 gear-up kit
    Malossi white contra spring
    Mazzucchelli Corsa 52mm Crankshaft
    Polini green clutch springs
    Polini clutch bell
12.7g roller mix (to change to 12's when run in)
    Pm engine bush kit
    Standard carb
    Scorpion exhaust
Metzeler windtec tyres (the reviews are correct, they grip well in dry and excellent in the rain too)
    17.8 rwhp

    Future plans:
repaint starter motor, wheels and calipers, center stand. Loose engine cover. ice numberplate mount and loose existing mount. Have orange panels repainted the same (slight fading on rear) and replace a couple of missing stickers. possibly PM pipe and 25mm carb but only when i can afford porting and flow work (and the fuel bill).
For the meantime its good enough and rides planted to the road, im a student (at 27, well better late than never!) and funds get exhausted quickly

I have a brand new Malossi CDI with box. I bought it as i thought the old unit had packed up which it hadnt, so its been tried on the bike for a whole of 3 mins. £105+ postage, no offers. :good:

Also the 180 barrel/ piston and head. its low milage and mint £80+postage

Anyone want the old crank, its done some work but theres still plenty of life left £25+postage

somebody needs to snap that barrel up quicktime :D project looks real nice. can allways tell an older than usual scooter owner from the attitude towards actually spending money on the thing lol bet your loving the forks (take a bit of setting up to get just right :D)

plenty you could do, but the only thing i would have done differently is use an electric waterpump.. keep an eye on it, they go more often than the crank bearings. good you caught this early.. not that it would have matterd. new kit and crank was installed anyway :D

i recon it will go better with 13.5's in there... wont rev out as hard but will wheely like a mmonster and pull like a train (well, comparitivly speaking) can see the dip in power as it comes off the clutch ;)

I'm only 21, my mint SP180's engine is currently bog standard apart from a Chrome NK Sprint, started with the logical 'Make it Handle & Stop' - F32's, VX Rear Caliper, Wavey Rear Disc, Synt Pads, Hel Lines & Michelin Sports.
Looking for a bigger front disc & PM Carbon Can so I can finally get her on the road.
Can't believe they want more to insure it as a 'bog standard' 180 than my GSXR!

hooligan tool. you ARE more likely to have a runner stolen mind, or write one off (statistically)

yea i know the runners have a high theft rate. I only pay £110 fully comp which isnt too bad.
As with the water pump I never even thought of that. I will keep a close eye in it. Its always parked in the exact same spot and I noticed a stain from the drain hole before. Next time it goes I will whip it out and replace with electric and then prob get the flow work done.
Regarding the rollers I believe on that run the bike had 10g rollers as he didn't have any others close to what was needed. His recommendation was 12g. I've made a temp mix and match at 12.7g. Thing is off the mark it feels like something is slipping and the acceleration is disappointing. It doesn't feel like its bogging (unless the clutch is slipping at same time) but more like its all noise no go. I don't think it will wheelie where as standard it would with a little tug. Its not terrible and just in the 0-30 range off the mark needs tweeking.

Im inclined to think I need 11.5g as the bike is trying to pull away in a higher gear but what i dont want to do is push the revs out of the pipes band, it feels nice at 30-80. I need someone to correct me on this as im trying to get my head around it properly. Another scenario that if my rollers are set to the right ranges for keeping the bike in the right power range theoretically if my clutch springs are a little tight then this would cause the same symptom woudnt it?

just was thinking out loud there lol

minor if you say the dip is the bike coming off the clutch then that means its slipping like it actually feels up to 35mph (also the graph shows). if i put lighter rollers in there then I may fix that problem but it will rev like hell. If i put 13.5 in there then in my mind it will get worse, it will try pull away in an even higher gear (meaning lower ratio)

heavier rollers will put more resistance against the crank, you have the power to push this gearing tho so it wont affect the revs.. try 13.5's nwitht he stock clutch... you will get a little hesitation from 0 to 10mph wich is just the clutch biting lower.. get the rollers spot on. then put some malossi green's in there. if you run anything tighter than greens you will simply get slip at top speed (so wont pull your top speed)

putting lighter rollers in there will just make the dip worse.. revs do not allways = power with these.. you need the variator to stop the engine revving via roller weight.

sorry, seems you allready have a polini spring set... cant remember the weight order, but DEFFO the lowest strength and some heavier rollers :)

ive marked whats going on here... springs are too hard so your getting smooth power delivery, but it takes too long/is slipping too much... can see where the power drops altho im sure the revs dont.

could live wiht the clutch, but DEFFO heavier rollers... :)
