    G'day everyone.

    I have picked up a Runner 180 FXR here in Sydney, Australia and wanted to ask for some help.

    The bike is a bit of a project and whilst it ran and rode when I picked it up, it needs a fair bit of work.

    Currently I have the following issue;

    Bike struggles to start both from cold and warm, with a bit of throttle it starts and I need to keep the revs up otherwise it will die.

    recent work;

    New Dellorto PHVB 20.5mm with H50 idle jet and 90 main jet.

    Bike was running hot (up to the H on the gauge) so I flushed the cooling system, refilled and bled the system. Checked fan and switch, both fine.

    Topped up the two stroke oil as it was low.

    Bike is completely stock, no performance parts.

    When it happened;

    Took the bike for a ride to check the temp issue after bleeding the cooling system. Bike stayed below half way on temp gauge and was running perfectly.

    As I was slowing down the bike suddenly didn't want to idle and cut out. Was able to get the bike going again but have to keep it at high revs. Riding along the bike still performs great it just doesn't want to tick over when you let off the throttle and slow down.

    A strange symptom that I can't put my finger on is that (whilst riding along) after letting off the throttle, the bike doesn't sound like it's running anymore. The engine does not sound like it's still switched on until I blip the throttle again which makes it tick over.

    I hope that makes some sense, as it's pretty hard to explain!

    Any experiences, tips or recommendations would be great!!

    Cheers

    In all honest I'm no mechanic but a do it self motor bike owner lol peds crosser..
    I own a vxr 200 runner
    I'd say you've got a fucked gasket on the top end,, would explain running shit and over heating due to mix of air and fuel and explain poor start both hot on cold but like I said I'm no mechanic,
    Couldn't even been gasket between reeds.. get it started and slow move hand all around head exhaust manifold carb every where check for air leaks

    Check the vacuum petrol pump pipe that comes off the engine case just under the reed block L/H side.

    Thanks for the feedback chaps.

    So... just finished fitting a new piston kit and top and gasket set.

    The bike is certainly starting easier, but the bike still has the cutting out symptoms. Bike runs great once moving and revs are up!

    When the bike is on the stand and the wheel is off the ground, the revs keep on rising on their own. When the wheel is on the ground it does not do this!

    Forgot to say in my OP, but I also fitted a new degasser tank due to a vacuum problem which was solved.

    Struggling with this one... can anyone help further?
