rounded variator nut

    just gone to fit my polini variator speed control to my speedfight and ive rounded the fuker off lol any suggestions on how to get it off ??!!

    i rounded the vaiator nut off that connexts to the crank

    lol mate, not the swearing in the title, the fact that the title doesnt make any sense and doesnt tell anybody what the thread is about.

    change the thread title to "rounded variator nut" or something similar, as thats what you have done, you've rounded the nut that holds the variator on from the little info you have given, so you will need to get a file and file two flat sides onto the bolt, then use a locking tool and a decent fitting spanner.

    Irwin sockets are good for rounded off nuts m8,they have a reverse spiral inside that bites on,they aint cheap though but bloody good,machine mart sell em but you might get em cheaper somewhere else

    get a grinder with a grinding disc, not a cutting disc, grind new flats down to 17 or 15mm, then use a decent set of sockets.

    if it was a nut on anything else but the crank, i would of suggested banging on the next size down star shaped socket....

    but its a big no no hammering cranks, you can knock them out of alignment...

    so as swift and wobbly said really ;)

    I was going to suggest that, but as it's the crank, I'd try the other suggested methods first if I were you.

    get some sockets called turbo sockets
    have teeth that grip into the nut and comes off pice of piss..

    try using an imperial socket did it on a mates bike and worked perfectly then replaced nut wen it wos of
