hiya all. i have had about 10 of these engines now but i have never had one in bits i need to know what spacers i need and where. i can use the same variator out of an old style engine cant i. is it just the bearing in the clutch that is different i know theres an olly washer at the front of the clutch between the clutch and the tranny case. just not too sure on the variator side many thanks
right i have sorted it. i wasnt sure if there was a washer at the back of the variator but there is not. variator - washer- front pulley - kick start cog- small washer - nut clutch - olly washer - tranny case bearing - small washer - nut
for a 180 its oil drive, washer, variator, washer, pulley, washer, starter dog,nut (the nut has its own washer) for a 125 its oil drive,variator,2 washers, pulley, washer, starter dog,nut.... lots of them nock about wiht only one washer... some manuals list one washer, i belive the ac engines (as they never did a 180) had a thicker washer between the pulley and variator making up the slack of the 2 wc washers.. the reason for moving one of the washers is that the different models had different size rollers.. you can use any diameter you like in any variator wiht any spacing, providing the front pulley matches the rear pulley on the clutch (the belts width opposit offset) this may be a crossover with models, even wc alone as alot of people say its only one washer you move and no others between the pulley and variator, this would work if it was thicker and would explain confusion... but it would also mean your gaining extra movment on the variator, a good or bad thing depending on wich way you move the variator. but ye, ive stripped MANY stock spank runners the past 10 or so years and every stocker ive ever touched has had 2 washers in ether of the above configurations.
thanks minor helps alot. my drag 180 engine did not have a washer between the oil drive and the variator though i ran my 172 as you said a 125 should be. expect there was only 1 washer on the front for both of my engines
ye most probably.... it wont do massive harm.. just means your ether limiting the bottom or top gear ratio (well, pulley ratio from the small to big side) doubt youd ever notice iut without a run down the strip/dyno session even if it were wrong.
