Im building my 172AC. As soon as parts start arriving il put pics up in the project area but i want some advice on stuff first. Reed valves. PM pro street reed valve (no stop on cage) Polini Reed valve Manifolds. PM pro street manifold(not to be confused with similar malossi item..why?) Polini manifold Variator. Polini variator kit Or a MHR? Original? off scootercentre etc. Gear-up. Malossi secondary gear kit PM tuning secondary gear kit(same ratio as malossi but cheaper..why?) Polini primary gear kit(difference between secondary gear kit?) Also are the PM tuning mains any good? Anyone tried or have these on there 172? or recommend something different Sorry for no pics, but the stuff im looking at is all on PM tunings site. What speed will a 172 top out at with 25mm phbl, reeds, manifold and variator with standard pipe..no gear-up? Then what will it top out at with a secondary gear up? ..With a secondary and primary gear? Sorry for so many questions :emb: ..Just want to get it right first time around Thaanks in advance
Forget about Polini variator and clutchs. Just get 180 clutch and variators. Also I would say take the gears out of a 180 as well. Conor
right. thas a big list but here goes.... reed valve your better off just modding your own to the same spec as a malossi/polili item as they use the stock cage as a basis for there own... manifolds are diff diameters/lengths to play wiht the power a little but its tit for tat really so go with the cheapest an hope it dont rip in half... malossi variator gives the flattest acceleration on the dyno altho the polini works well except for the hole in the power under 10-15mph.. the torque drive helps with this on the 125's pm and malossi are the same ratio but not the same material. gears are gears tho so ratio at the cheapest price pm mains are just repacketed piaggio items. stock are fine tho. will top out the same speed it did befor with no gear up. you have more power but theres no more gearing to go and your not revving any higher so cant go faster. hence the gear up. dont ever use both gearups in a 125 as you will NEVER push the speeds youve just geard up for. need 30+bhp and the barrel would melt befor you got to top speed.. also your tyres would probably pop at that speed. will be around 85/90 if built and setup correctly but will feel alot faster.. its not how fast it is that counts its just how fast it feels. so just tell people its fast init... most of em have pritty identicakl top ends tbh.. power doesent make top speed but accell with auto's
Thanks v much.. i know i asked this before and terro locked the thread but i searchd HARD and didnt find any proper info on the jolly moto pipe..i can hardly find anything on the net of it either.. What rpm does the pipes powerband work at and would the pipe be any good for a lightly ported 172..or is the pm59 the only pipe for the job.. THAAAAANKS
jolly works as well if not better than a 59 in every aspect.. range is from a lower rpm to a higher if you actually have the revs at hand. downside is wheelying as its a verry low sitting pipe
daaamn i was realy hoping to get that pipe..but if i cant realy wheely then i dont want it. I searched about those mhr manifolds that are at an angle and found Ciaran talking about there good for wheelys as they keep the carb at near enough flat angle..how well do they work when the bike is ridden normaly? Thanks minor for all your replyz..just to let you know i do appreciate it
