Hi all, Looking at buying a performance reed block. Can anyone advise on which? Final setup, Gilera DNA 50 with Stage 6 Racing MKII cylinder with Dellorto VHST 24mm. Reed related questions & thoughts: Reed stops - I know what they for but some valves don't have them. Why? And is one with none advisable? Reed petals - Single leaf a side or double leaf a side? Carbon or Glass fibre? Reed Spacer & Manifold - Looking at the Stage 6 R/T 28mm Intake spacer, any good for carb angle? I see there is also a Stage 6 Angled Intake Manifold specifically stating for larger carbs. Thanks
reed stops are needed to stop the petals bending too far and cracking...even to the point of snapping off. Dependant on the inlet some blocks are used as stops so dont need seperate stops as far as i'm aware Only used standard steel and fibre glass types of reeds (not used carbon). The glass ones snap open faster so give better throttle response, the downside to them is that they fray at the ends and bow over time. The bowing can be sorted by imsering in hot water and gently bending them back to their original position so the tip closes perfectly against the block edge. Not sure about the angled inlet but logic suggests that there wouldnt be enough height to get the larger carb in with a straight inlet so ther alternative is one thats angled
