If you are using the Carlube red two-stroke oil, it's already got the additive in it, so you don't need to add amny more to the petrol.

Not sure id use it in a two stroke but it did help with rough idle on my old elyseo 125.

The additive is called Upper Cylinder Lubricant and it can reduce piston ring wear in 2 and 4 strokes, as well as reducing wear of the valves and fuel injectors on a 4 stroke. Some 'Carb and Choke Cleaner' aerosols also contain the additive.

Redex is a brand and they produce fuel additives for all types of engines, including diesel.

IF you're using good quality 2 stroke oil then there's no reason why anyone would need this for a 2t to be honest.

But there's additives and cleaners - which are you asking about?

I can't offer any opinion for 2-strokes or injectors, but on older carburated 4-strokes the Redex additive is recommended by many people for keeping the fuel system clean. I have a 96 Diversion which is a 600 straight 4 with a block of 4 carbs, and it runs sweeter with the additive. I know a lot of people who use it in pre-injection cars too.

Bad for bikes? Well, an engine is an engine regardless of what it drives - bike, car, boat, water-pump, chain-saw, generator - even mopeds.

I recommend you buy some of the additive appropriate to your machine's engine and try it for a couple of months. It won't do any harm - if it did then either Redex would have gone out of business or it would be more than just a rumour that it is "bad for bikes".

What do I know? I only worked in the oils and lubricants industry for 25 years, maybe you know better than I do..?

There are upper cylinder lubricants, cetane/octane boosters and carb/injector cleaners, it's a product range for petrol and diesel engines, it's not just one product.

Redex was originally a single product that was mixed in with the fuel. The idea was that it cleaned varnish deposits created by fuel in the carbs and cleaned off carbon deposits from the piston. i still have an original bottle at my dads.
