Quick question , I've just noticed that my rear tyre is on backwards is this something I should change immediately? What issues will this cause? Many thanks , John

I suppose it depends on the tread pattern also?
As above, wet could be an issue!
Also I guess it may wear differently and or quicker? Not 100% sure.

Being a bore who worked in the industry before moving on to aircraft it does matter I'm afraid. Rotation direction is directly connected to expulsion of contaminants. Any and all.
If considered within design (therefor marked as such) incorrect fit can draw contaminants in from outside to centre thus the only escape is to "lift" the tyre off the road to eject, greatly reducing contact.
Obviously water is the biggest concern but sandy/dusty or at this time of the year gritty surfaces can also be bad.
    I'll bore off now

    None.
I'll shorten what he said and simplify it for those who aren't as brainy :p
If the tyre isnt fitted the correct way around, the tread won't do what it is designed to do and push rain water out or grip onto the tarmac as it is designed to do especially on loose surfaces such as gravel. You'll most likely aquaplane and not know it until the last minute. Get it put on the correct way round as soon as possible.
