I see a few ads for suspension blocks that raise the rear shock, but I'm trying to assess the benefits, is it for allowing a softer suspension so it doesn't bottom out and smoother ride ? or for any other reason.

Well... if your tall like me then it can help there, I got a jack up kit once but after fitting it to the phantom I found that it had pushed the horizontal minarreli engine block up inside the belly pan and was stressing cables ect.... I took it off instantly!

On my Vespa LX I’ve just fitted a 25mm taller rear shock which saves me getting a spacer.

My reason is my aftermarket exhaust hits my frame.

Not really, most of the bikes weight is still in the same place.

Then if you mean I’m higher, then yeh possibly but I’ve changed my seat also which is a different height to the one before.

I avoided doing this mod thinking the same but I can’t feel any difference, and visually it looks almost the same.
