    Hi Everyone

It's a while since I posted on here. I got some really helpful advice on here last year and so thought I'd try to give something back. Last year I decided to take my CBT and got a GN125 instead of the 50cc scooter I had originally planned to buy. Then I really didn't like the L plates and got my full license. Here's the bike just before I bought it. Not everyone's cup of tea in the styling department I know...

Anyway at the end of last year I got knocked off by someone in a van who ran a red traffic light. All fairly low speed, but still enough to write off the bike, break a bone in my wrist and injure my hip, leg, foot and a few other places. But the traffic cop (who was great by the way) and the paramedics (also great) were amazed that I didn't have more injuries and said my gear had saved me. As well as the helmet (obviously), I was wearing proper boots, gloves and an armoured jacket and overtrousers. Everyone thought I'd broken my ankle with the way my leg was twisted and trapped under the bike. It was still quite badly injured but would have been properly knackered if I had been wearing trainers.

Which is where I'm getting to now. I feel a bit ill now whenever I see someone riding a scooter (or motorbike) in their normal clothes. I know the law says you only need to wear a helmet. I know the proper gear isn't cheap. I know it's a hassle to store the stuff wherever you're going. But I now also know that the gear saved me from serious injuries.

At the risk of sounding like anyone's Dad :) if you don't wear proper gear at the moment (especially the gloves and boots) please give it some serious thought. If you're trying to convince someone else to buy the gear for you then show them this post ;-) .

On a lighter note, even though I was wearing all the gear this still hurt...

    Take care out there

I got a pair of summer gloves from Aldi last year and couldn't fault them. I think they also have helmets, boots and gloves in the latest leaflet I saw too. Last year they had a similar set of offers and the place where I did my training said the helmet was good.

that aldi crap it not cheap, my old RSR was only £60 and i would trust it more than some thing that made for aldi to sell.

look around before buying crap. most brand sell a budget line that i would trust more that a budget brand
