since i bought my bike gilera dna 50, the rev counter will not go over 7k revs while im riding, if im going down a hill and i pick up more speed it might push to about 8k revs and when i accelerate from still the revs might go up to 7.5k. this makes me think there is some sort of rev limiter for example in the cdi. i can get speeds of about 48mph on flat. the one thing i dont understand is if i put the bike on the stand and rev it out the revs will raie to 10+k revs. i dont understand y on the stand it will rev higher and when im riding it wont rev anymore than about 7k revs. even if i hold the back brake and rev i still dont get rmoe than 7k. any suggestions?? as i have a feeling this is affecting my speed and acceleration.
rev it on the stand and theres no load on the engine, rev while riding theres the weight of the bike, you, wind resistance, etc
no rev limiter. check rollers aren't square, make sure the belt isnt too worn, if all is ok then drop the roller weight half a gram.
ermm i put new belt on it about 1 month ago cant be that its been doing it since i bought it i assumed it was restricted, i mean engine just runs fine but i think if it reved out it would have mroe power. i weigh about 80kg, on stand bike revs fine when im riding no mroe than 7k. my friend has been on it and he weighs bout 65 so i dought its the load on the bike
It's got to be the roller weight then. is the bike totally standard? i'm 99% sure if you drop 1/2 a gram on the rollers it will rev better, with the DNA you want it to rev just below the red when you are accelerating, say 8,500 - 9000 rpm (if the red line it at 10K) then when the bike reaches the top of its "gearing" it should rev out to about 10k and be pulling a good 55mph on the clocks.
yeh cos ive seen vids and revs at bout 10k, well do you have any idea what the standard roller weights are? and yes apart from a 60 main jet everything else is standard.
the standard pipe dosn't really promote revving but 9k should be about right. not sure on standard weights but i'm sure someone on here can help.
Standard weight are 7.5g. is the scooter restricted? Im pretty sure you'll want to drop the weight by more then 0.5g, i would buy the following sets; 5.7 and 6.5. you should be able to get the best combinition out of those two.
ah, if stock are that heavy then go down by a full gram as suggested. worth getting your compression checked as the revs will drop off on a worn engine.
Off topic but, do you know if those £20 car compression testers from halfrauds, will they work just as good on a little 50? they show like a red yellow and green indication zones always wondered if there pukka?
not too sure, i've never seen them, mine is a bit like this one: 140psi is a very good reading for most 50s, anything above 80 will run and anything above 110 is good. (PSI)
What year model is this mate? (Plate) i've got a 58' hits 9k downhill and it's restricted at the moment, I always had a suspicious thought that the CDI rev count is restricted (not on all of them but from a certain year) but I'm probably being paranoid lol :wtf:
it measures how much compression your cylinder has. basically a new engine will produce more compression than a worn engine. more compression means more force from the exploded fuel/air mix is acting down on the piston therefore more power is being generated.
Yeah, same with my locals - theres only one good place around as they specialise in 50's and 125s lol
lol i know what u mean, havent tried this me out yet and they have only 50s nd 125s so maybe they bit more serious.
