    Hi,

I'm hopefully going to be firing my 120cc'ed Aerox up this weekend so will need to do a plug read.

I understand that i basically need to run it up to speed, kill the engine then check the plug and adjust the carb until it becomes a chocolcate colour.

In preparation for this i have bought some new clean plugs.

Before i actually do the plug read though can anyone advise how long i should be running the engine for bfore reading the plug?

Obviously i don't want to run the risk of seizing it by running it for too long on the wrong mixture....how long will it take for the plug to "colour" correctly?

    Thanks in advance!

It wont seize THAT quickly unless your running it without any oil at all.

Use 3 brand new plugs to get a rough reading.. 1st plug, run the engine on tickover and upto 1/4throttle for 2mins, kill the engine then check plug colour.

Install 2nd new plug, this time run the engine from between 1/4- 1/2 throttle for 2 mins, check plug colour.

Then install the 3rd and final plug, now run the engine from 3/4 - full throttle for 2 mins then check plug colour.

Now you should have 3 plugs giving you some clue of how the engine is running from tickover (1st plug), midrange (2nd plug) and full throttle (3rd plug)

Do all plug tests under load (with rider on bike) and when the engine is HOT, you wont get an accurate reading from revving on the stand.
