Took my aerox to a bike shop today to have it checked because it has lost ALOT of power over the last few weeks, stuggling to rev etc.

It has about 6000 miles on the clock on an 06 plate. He checked it over and listened to the engine and told me that he couldn't here or see anything wrong engine wise. He didn't competely strip it down as he didn't have time, but he said that he thinks it my be the piston ring is worn or the CDI unit has broken.

    What do you think?

yeah, i wudve thought that if the cdi was broken, it wouldnt send a spark to the engine atall

well actually the CDI could lose its mapping and give the wrong curve so the engine would run, just badly.

think your bike shop needs to invest in a compression tester.

I doubt its the cdi, more likely the piston rings have worn down (possibly) hence losing power due to a lack of efficiency

i.e. engine having to work harder than before to keep the piston moving up and down

try the piston rings first matey, keep the reciept and put it in the place where you keep its mot certificates, log book etc, this will look good when you sell it and also it is probably the cheapest out of the two.

whilst the piston is out check for hard wearing spots on the cyclinder walls as you may need to rehone them

If the engine is still losing power, claim via warranty for a new cdi

best bet is an athena limitless CDI, usually about 30 quid i think. try scooter center or SIP.
