Piston Dented and Bore Dented

Hey guys, as if you read my other thread i was riding along and my scooter cut out on me and sounded like theyre was no compression, eventually ive stripped it done and noticed a nice chunk out of piston and dented bore, i know i need to replace this but would this of caused it to cut out?

it can be caused by running the bike lean and over heating of the piston too fast ...

 

it isnt running lean tho ?

Its running slightly rich

 

did you let the bike warm up b4 raggin it ...an also has it been run in

 

Had the tip come off the sparkplug or part of a ring broken off? cos it usually takes a foreign object to cause this.

 

yee callum i have to or wont move spark plugs in 1 piece and aint check ring or circlips

 

wait what just happen?? the 50cc broke on you??? they are not likely to fuck up...

 

nope Athena 70cc Kit on and barrel n pistons fucked, i know i need to replace it will do wen i start new job next week but i want to know if this caused my bike to cut out n not start

 

yes of coarse it will make it not start...and the onlt things i know that will corse sumet like that is running lean and heating the piston up 2 fast and just normal wear but it will take a lot off full throttle miles to do that

 

i aint checked the circlip but the piston seemed wobbly so that might of come out and got caught n scored barrel

 

it will be wobbly ...they are as there is a couple of mm gap on either side of the smaal end bearing ..and yes a circlip would do that but unlikely it has only jus come out

 

maybe Athena isnt just a good brand? and reliable?

 

when i went to donotlink pedstop i was talking to guy and the athena 70s is one of best kits for a/c bikes better than polini and they are becoming more popular and was running great until then had ace power.

 

athena is basicly stage 6 ...its the same thing with a different name and the piston is slightly different

 

cant be man... there is no reason to make two same things with different names.. stage 6 is more popular.. and from what everyone says its more reliable, powerfull ect... i think that what you say its foolish... why wouldnt anyone make 70cc scoots with athena kits then??

 

athena has made alot of the stage 6 cylinders ...like the modular is exactly the same but stage 6 have kinda bullet shaped piston and athena ha jus a flat piston

 

then why pedparts show on their diagram that stage 6 is the best???

 

becos they havent made all of the cylinders just some of them
