hi all when i got my zip it had a 85 jet and a double sponge filter with a sock of the carb i guess to stop it sucking to much air in...when on full throttle it used to bog out so i doubled the sock and that sorted the problem.how ever i have just changed the jet to 98 and seems to have a bit more poke now.So question is if i remove a layer of the sock or all of it will it run better or is it a case of just trying it out.But will it damage the engine in any way.. sorry im new to all this to Thanks
the air filter is too open for the carb. It needs changing or the carb needs jetting properly to compensate for the increased air flow. As you have already noticed, the 98 jet makes it run better, means its getting more fuel, remove the sock and see what happens. If it gets worse then up the jet again to a 105 and see how that pans out. All trial and error with jetting. But patience is a virtue which you will find out.
yh ive changed the jet that was in there from the 85 fitted to a 98 i have now fitted so as i have up jetted that could i try and remove the the sock would it be a case of seeing if it boggs out again.......also think the carb is a delorto as im sure it says that on the side if it makes any differance
