'Lo and behold - The Zip is getting a 50cc racing engine, so it won't just stand there and collect dust and rust away.

    *UPDATE 4/9/2009*
Seems like i'll be changing the setup a "bit". More info will come sunday, when i'm done at the party sponsored by one of Denmark's biggest tuning suppliers. :D

    ----

The frame itself is currently in the progress of being washed down (ie. standing outside in the rain), but it will get a sandblast and some colour.

The engine - Well, thats a whole other ballpark...

But first a bit o' history..
I got two typhoon frames along with two engineblocks off a mate along with a whole Vauxhall Kadett stationcar filled to the brim with Piggy/Gilly spares in trade for a '01 Yamaha Neo's which was barely running, and a Yamaha Jog Z2 which was busted to say the least, and i was told they where "okay" in condition, so i was happy..
Till i saw what was hiding in the boxes.

I'll let the pictures speak for them self...

This is the best of the blocks, and i have just installed the gearing, which to my surprise was mint! It was completely ripped of everything, and please notice the holes for the stator.. The threads are half of what they used to be, but to my surprise, they hold a bolt as they should!. Good thing too, because i was almost giving up on that block.
Do i clean it off, and keep it in bare aluminium (Sexeh), or should i paint it black (Practical)?

I will need to get a hole drilled, and get a threaded barb installed, as i HATE those darn L-tubes in plastic that you get now days (Gimme back the old metal ones, kthx  ).

All bolts from the engine and the rear brake parts is currently being cleaned in my homebrew rust and gunk remover (50% old petrol, 40% petroleum, a dash of twostroke oil (Castrol A747), WD-40 and a danish brand rust remover.. It gets the job done, and it's GREAT for carb. cleaning too  )

It was looking like this, when i got it (Yucky, yes - But it's gonna be looking better when i get it done.)

On the positive side - I got my Athena "Evo" crank checked out today, and it seems fine!, so thats gonna be it as it was "free" (Got it in the trade too along with a TP Nardo Rep. exhaust.)

Apart from that crank, the engine will consist of the following (As of now anyways, subject to change, if i get another offer i can't refuse..).

Polini Evolution 1g 50cc LC cylinder (In the cart)
24mm PWK carb. (In the cart/In house (Off a mate, which i share a few projects with))
Hebo Reed block and reeds (In house)
Malossi AM-6 manifold modded for a Piaggio Engine (Same model as on my ProRace Typhoon, and it works great, and it will take the "old" PWK's per default) (In the cart)
Stage6 R/T wingbell with a Malossi Delta/Copy of a Delta (In the cart)
Malossi MultiVar 2000 (In the cart)

Pair that along with all the "usual" bits and bobs, and i think we might have a serious competitor in the danish 50cc max HP class...! :]

Update will follow in a while...

its a shame about the threads for the stator.. aslong as you can hold that side of the case in the air by the stator its fine (they are subject to large magnetic forces at high rpm)

as for the colour, black WILL shed heat faster than plain silver, it looks horible but serves a perpous, spray the cylinder too if power is the main gain (sounds obserd but black paint on anything lets heat out)

if you order the gilera runner water entry pipe it comes in metal and fits fine.. altho the threeaded pipe adaptor makes fitting an electric pump easier as you know.

what happend to the kadett? :confused:hock:

The Kadett was so stuffed with things that we couldn't close the trunk. :hmm:

2x Typhoon frames, engineblocks in moving crates, 100mm rims en mas (i've got around 4 complete sets now, just needs some rubber, im thinking of going with low-profile metzler me7teens again, unless i find some slicks that will fit in 120/70-10), fairings for Gilera Stalkers and a load of other things... It looked funny to say the least, and even the passenger seat was taken - Good thing i was on my NRG out to collect it :p

nitromaus is good.. any paint remover will do altho you want to avoid caustic soda based products.. but ye, if you can get it where you are nitromaus will pull the paint off lovely, slap it all over, leave it 5 mins then hit it wiht a wire brush and tadaaa, one spanking engine
