Hi. I am having a problem with my bike pulling away. Now i first want to say i bought it from the shop (on the wheel in Brighton). Pretty useless to be fair. But anyway, it was completely standard. I asked them to de-restrict it for me and they did. This is were the problems started. The bike wont start unless i give it full throttle for a second. and When i first start it up. I leave it running untill the choke comes off and moves up to around 3000 revs. I go to pull away and it is very sluggish, doesn't really want to move but after holding full throttle for a while, it will then kick into life and be fine from there on unless i have to stop on a hill then well...... I have to stop completely for it to pull away again. I have fitted the polini high speed variator kit in there along with a polini kevlar belt. 4.8G rollers and everything else is stock. It also has a 62 jet in there. Wondered what could be causing this i thought maybe the clutch or the torque spring ???? Some help would be appreciated as the garages want to charge a fortune. Thanks

I would also like to mention i have a brand new polini 15kg torque spring and a new clutch, and new springs waiting to be installed. Would them parts help my acceleration ? Also i already get 50mph on the flat. Takes a while :D and The springs i have are polini ones coloured, Blue, Green, Yellow and grey. Which ones would be best for good acceleration and top speed ? Thanks

check your mixture screw setting or maybe try putting a smaller/bigger main jet in there

Try raising the carb needle one notch and see if that helps. That will make the mixture a little richer on part throttle settings.

Thankyou all for your help. Im Just wondering would better clutch springs and a contra spring help ? I have a brand new motoforce racing clutch and all 4 springs from polini. Just havent got round to fitting them yet. And i am also wondering if you guys can give me some advice on my carb. Ive had it in pieces for a clean and yet my idle screw has to be all the way in for it to idle properly. Would you say its worth buying a new carb for £60. or take it to a garage so they can put it in there machine to clean it out properly ?? Many thanks.

If the idle screw is all the way in for it to tick over then it's WRONG.
Up the jet size, put the needle clip on the middle slot, put the mixture screw to 1 1/2 turns out and re-jet from there.

ive had similar problems. try more shims between your fly wheel and variator. careful not to go to far as your plastic fan will rub on your casing (personal experience )!!!

I have just realised that in the past 3 days I have had an oil leak. Leaking from the transmission case but on the left hand side. Its not the oil pump so im guessing its the crankshaft oil seal. Which if it is will solve most of my problems and would explain alot. I will keep u guys updated to help others with this problem.

^^That. Crankcase seals are a known weak point on Piaggio scooters. It will be bleeding a lot of the crankcase charge away before it gets to the cylinder.

I had a similar prob with the pick up/ acceleration on a runner after fitting a performance belt as it was slightly wider than standard and when I changed it back it was fine
