So i’ve owned this bike since new it’s a 2018 model and done around 28000 miles

    it’s been served yearly

last week it was running a little strange
i’d sometimes lose power on throttle and it would at times stall

Anyway i was at a set of lights and heard a strange noise come from the engine case
it was dead and would not start anymore

rolled it to the local dealers who said the cam chain had snapped and they needed to put a camera inside to check things

so far I owe them 2 hours at £92 an hour only to be told they need another hour and can then decide if it’s a write of or can be saved

now i’m not sure what to do here
i’m £200 down and expected to throw another £92 at it to find out if it can be saved

what’s peoples opinions on this sort of repair ?
does it usually damage the engine beyond repair ?

i’m at the mercy of the garage here and don’t wish to spend another 2 hours to get a £400 bill to get back a dead written off bike

but already £200 in the hole
so i cut my loses and collect the bike in bits
or spend another hour on it ?

If it is a cam chain issue it could most probably bend valves in the head, damaging the head, damage piston and con rod, and possibly the chain could be jammed in crankcase around crank. Possibly cheaper to get another engine.

They don't need 3 hrs to diagnose that. One look down the spark plug hole will speak volumes.
3 hrs they could have the engine out and stripped on the bench
