Hi, my mate bought a speedfight with a 70cc kit installed. he brought it home, riden for couple of miles untill he wanted to go somewhere and half way through the road it died. he brought it home, it came out that the carb was broken. bought the carb changed it, and it didn't start, he got it to the local garage and the guy said he will take a look at it. firstly he wanted 70quid for taking the plastics off and examine it. few days after he took the engine apart and it came out that the piston and rings ware completale wrecked. the guy ordered new ones, week later he replaced them. my mate got a call from last night and the guy told him that he changed the piston etc and it still does not start up. Now my mate is fed up as he paid 500quid fot the bike and the guy wants another 200 for repairs and parts. he now wants to sell the bike as it,s simply not worht to repair. has any body got a clue on what may be the case ? the spark is going to the cylinder, carb is probably taking the fuel and the bike still does not start. what may be the case ?
Any help will be appriciated guys. thanks!

Did the guy change the barrel too? If the barrel is scored there won't be enough compression to start the engine. Has the mechanic also checked the oil pump, as it's the one of these three items.

    1. Barrel scored = low or no compression.
    2. Weak fuel mixture or auto-choke faulty.
    3. Oil pump not working.

Let's have some answers to these and we can then start working on the problem.

Any bike (2-stroke or not) is fine as long as it's not 'Barried', or messed with by teenagers, in an attempt to get more performance. Once a bike is correctly set up, it should be fine, as long as the owner remembers to put 2-stroke oil in if required :D !

the guy has changed the barrel. i will call the mechanic myself today and ask him the following questions. to be honest i prefer the 2Stroke Mopeds. 4T ones are either hard to modify, slower then 2T and they sound like a tractor or a lawmower. 4T may be more economical but most of them are chineese, and its hard to get a decent 4T for good price, unless its been modifided by some douche who took it apart and cant put it all back...

so you would rather a scoot sounding like its screaming all time as 2 strokes usually do n only reason you get modded 2 strokes is because teenagers dont really have a clue about engines so they know that 2 strokes dont have timing issues which makes it easier to wack a 70 kit onto it i admit its easier to mod a 2t bike but dont really see the point tbh if you want a paster ped then buy a faster one other wise you run into problems as are most of the threads on this site

Listen mate, its my problem on what i would rather ride. I have described the problem thaty friend has, never said he was a teenager or anything. Sorry for not being a millionaore and maybe i don't want to buy nothing new and would rather get mine made as i want ? You didn't think about that did you ? I have describet the problem and asked for advice, never asked for your opinion about 2T or 4T definately not about thr teenage age group. If you still want to chat about it go do it in the off-topic section, sorry.

IF the plug is getting spark, make sure it's getting fuel aswell. After cranking it over a few times, pull the plug and check it. IF it's wet, then it is getting fuel. IF it is not wet, then it's not. This could be a problem with the Pilot circuit, which is in charge of starting the bike. Make sure the Pilot Jet and passage are not blocked. Before you do this, make sure fuel is actuly entering the float bowl. As you said "carb is probably taking the fuel", make sure it actuly is. Drain the float bowl first, in case there is any left over fuel in their. Next, I'm assuming the petcock / fuel tap is vacuum operated, so in order to check that it flows into the float bowl, you need to attempt to start the bike a few times first. After doing this, back out the float bowl drain screw. Fuel should flow out of the drain hose freely if it's entering the bowl. Also while you're at it, make sure the spark plug gap is set correctly. A good spark should be blue / purple.
