Hi I'm new here, So I've replaced the kick-start mechanism in my Speedfight 2 100cc engine casing (Return spring, pinion gear and the toothed shaft gear.. it all works fine when I put pressure on the kick-start pedal when its off the engine but once I bolt it back on it seems to be stuck and wont move? The only thing I can see is that the fins are bent on the pulley wheel could this be the reason? Any help would greatly be appreciated please excuse my lack of knowledge Cheers
from what I can see it will only go one way I suspect its something to do with the bent fins on the pulley wheel?
ALL speedfights should have a 1mm gasket on the belt cover. This gasket makes a hell of a difference to the kick start spacing. Plus make sure that someone hasn't shimmed the variator out too far, making the kickstart washer too close to the kickstart bendix in the process. Or put a normal washer under the kickstart bendix in the belt case side. It should be a shim washer to aid spinning on use only.
ok thanks for your reply ill check the spacing.. when you say put a washer under the kick-start bendix im assuming your talking about the pinion gear as in the attached pic? I haven't a clue
Your post struck a chord, ordered parts for the Vivacity i had.....just clocked the picture you put up,they come in varied sizes!,if that's any help-thinking being obviously it'll work off the bike, but when attached..
Yup, that'll be the one. I don't normally put any kind of washer under the pin, just a smear of copper grease
another little tip with those, that funny clip thing, after a while, it will gum up and your kickstart will stick (maybe thats why you changed it?) anyway...... use a tiny (and i mean tiny) drop of motor oil on it, it will spin easier and the kickstart will return faster, motor oil has the right consistency that it will stick to the metal and not get into the belt or anything, just be sure to use a tiny bit. then wipe off any excess with a bit of kitchen roll or whatever....
