running a zip SP with polini 70 barrel, 21mm carb and polini pan type air filter. Sometimes when the engines stopped the air filter leaks petrol. I've read other posts that say its overfuelling and need to re-jet. BUT when the bikes running the performance is fine with no bogging down...runs a treat

any ideas why or what are my options?
    TY

had a look at plug ?

could be abit rich to cause this but maybe not enough to cause bad running problems.

also see if the reeds are worn

Reeds and block are recent new Malossi...omly done 1000 miles max

Its not running bad,...thats half the issue. Infact it runs really good. Its just SOMETIMES when stopped, the filter pi55es petrol out for a while :wallbash: :wallbash:

    Thanks....to the next question

Its a PHPG 21mm carb. Any idea where I can get the info for the correct float height. Obviously, I have manual for the zip but the carb isn't std fitment

I've searched the net and found a measurement of 16mm...is this a general height for this size carb or are there different heights to suit different bike fitments
You can tell I stick to std carbs regularly carnt ya LOL

but i would just drop the float bowl off and make sure everything is in place as it should be.

the hight of the float is usually fine, take the bowl off and flow fuel through it at the angle it sits on the bike and note the position it shuts off the fuel. if the centre of the float is above the main jet dont worry about it (would be fookin rare if it wasent right tho as thery work up tio 45 degree's off on any axis)

some fuel out of the filter is normal, this could well be mis guided overflow tho so check the fuel tap os working correctly... check all the obvious things thin investigate further into idle mixture/needle setting and your reed's/change to thinner/thicker noting the difference.... they will always expell soem fuel from the filter, its the sheer flow into the carb and sudden stop 200 odd times a second. its bound to reflect out

Thanks Minor, I'd already done the google bit and found 16mm but didn't know if it was model specific or just an overall measurement

The zip dunt have an on/off fuel tap, its operated off the vacuum and the carb. I presume that once a vacuums created it allows the fuel to pass....spose this could be faulty allowing the fuel to free flow on some occasions

ye thas the one, if the tap is fucked and the float has grit/residue it will overflow.... check the opperation of both respectivly. but ye, check the above also, reeds/pilot jet/needle position. they all run a little wet like i say. fuel will always come out of the ventury of a carb, especially single cylinder engines

mine does the same and specially when you lean it on the side stand it will piss out petrol from over flow pipes its coz it needs a new petrol tap because it needs to work on the vacuum but mine just comes non stop lol need a new petrol tap or just get the ones u can manually do turn it on and off.
