just been on the phone to someone on here about buying some parts but got his number from an old post. he's asked me to send the money into his bank account, just wondering if i have any cover at all doing a bank transfer rather than paying via paypal?. I probably am just worrying a bit too much and the guy is genuine but just dont want to send any money across until i am sure the person i was on the phone to is the person on here.

I would just do it through e-bay which is much safer. In case you do not get the parts you can always open a case and get your money back. I would rather pay that extra 5 quid and get the money back in case rather then loosing much more as that person can put all of the parts you want into one auction and send you a pm link so you could buy it straight away. That is the way that I would personally do it.

You do it your own way. I'm just saying what way I would do it myself. Nowa days you can't really trust anyone.:)

Yeah, that is true, but you will know if the lad happily puts it on e-bay for an extra cost, then you know if he wont fuck you over with the parts but if it is a hassle for him then you know that he may want to fuck you over or something.;)

Think i've actually been ripped off.. i'm not mentioning any names until i actually know what is going on but think i might be £120 out of pocket. Last night i messaged him with the account number ( that he gave me on the phone ) and that i sent the money into it.. i woke up to a message from him saying whats this account number stuff?. he seems a very respectable guy on the forum though?, really don't know what to do :/.. Do i cancel the payment now or wait for a reply from him and risk the bank telling me i can't cancel the payment? :/.

My advice would be to cancel the payment if you can.

eBay is the best way to go when selling items as otherwise you only the words of someone you dont know. I wouldnt buy anything unless he is reputable on the forum.

Although I wouldnt mention any name, his user on the forum can be posted until the problem is resolved as it would prevent others from buying from him.

Well the problem is the user is claiming to not know about any phone calls.. which may be true as he could have sold a phone and changed numbers or something but im not going to name him or put up his username as its being investigated and i should know what is going on police wise soon. obviously if it does turn out that it was the user on here i will put up his username to warn others.

didnt know you could cancel a bank transfer, once its done its done i thought.

as for the phone issues, are you still texting the same number as you did to start with? as in when you phoned the guy, was it the same number you are now texting

You can't ever cancel a bank transfer. It's one of like 5 ways of sending money that you have no protection

fuck using bankers drafts... your asking them to pull your pants down mate.

paypal everyday or cash in person. cash wins for me everytime because if you try and rob me eg cheques or drafts, you wont get 3 metres away from a bat round the head or something worse lol....

sounds like your in the process of being ripped off, your saying he could have sold a phone and changed his number? what are the odds of that happeneing , seriously.. dont wanna burst your bubble mate, but as you said, CANT TRUST ANYONE THESE DAYS. so dont. try and get ya money back before it all goes tits up and your 120s out of pocket .

    Username and shame!

Basically i'm gonna mention his name and then he's got a chance to defend himself and maybe shine a bit of light on what has happened.. Grantmc3 has a for sale thread i pm'd him asking to buy his c16 and pm 70 kit, he didn't reply straight away so i text the number from his for sale thread which has the name simon at the end of it when his name is grant?. He then rang me back and said he had sold the pm 70 kit but i could have a stage 6 one instead.. i paid by bank transfer into the account he gave me over the phone and he said he would get it sent off on monday .. before i sent any money i text the number saying send me a message on scooter shack so i know im talking to the right person bearing in mind the thread was old. i then got a message from grantmc3 saying "ite lad you want the c16 an stage 6 cylinder". so i assumed i was talking to the right person so i went ahead and sent the money. Then i had a message from grantmc3 saying something along the lines of "whats all this account number stuff mate" and saying he hadn't spoke to me on the phone at all?.. don't know what to do from here.

kind of pissed in your own pocket there mate!

when he messaged you saying 'you want the C16 AND 70 kit' ???? after he said he'd sold the exhaust.... did that not come into mind? lol ....

being basic here, but it sounds like 'grant' has had his account hacked or something and someone else has got you to send them your bank details to this 3rd person, claiming to be 'grant'..

more than likely its not the case and maybe he can come on here and explain the whole situation, tbf, you CANT jump to conclusions until you know the facts...

'ite lad u want the c16 and stage6 cylinder.. just shouts 'chav' at me.

he didnt say he had sold the exhaust?.. he said he had sold the pm 70 kit but had a stage 6 racing cylinder slightly ported and told me it had a bridged port. what are the chances of me sending a message to someone that knows the specifics about the exact items i am supposed to be buying?.. i'm not jumping to conclusions that's why i refused to name him.. innocent until proved guilty as far as im concerned i just need some answers and nothing is getting anywhere.

sorry i meant the 70 kit lol.... not exhaust ,...

and i know , thats why i said its probably not the case , theres usually a perfectly good explanation for everything.

i take it as the longer they take to do something about it, the more guilty they look or are feeling and dont know what to do about it, but thats me again,,

hope it all turns out well for ya mate, not to beat around the bush but it doesnt look promising from what youve wrote o_O but ou never know, there is good in some people!

To be fair i've spoke to grantmc3 and he seems a nice bloke, but i dont really know what to expect as i suppose someone who is trying to make money from scamming people could act nice?.. If money isn't put in my bank i'm gonna ring the police again and give them his bank details and see if they can get an address. I rang his bank and they wouldn't give me any details for obvious reasons but said the only thing i can do is report him and let them know his bank details and the bank would be happy to cooperate with the police. Think that's the route im gonna have to take if no money is given back :/.. Can't see how people can do it without feeling bad spending that money its just a cheap skanky way of making money from other peoples trust

    I sympathise over the situation.

However, regardless of whether the guy is scamming you or his account has been hacked, the bottom line is you fucked up and transferred money to some random with no sure way of getting it back. Now its gone tits up and your out of pocket.

The golden rule is always protect yourself when paying for something over the internet and trust no-one.

As i said i sympathise but i think you'll need to put it down to experience and move on - the chances of getting your money back are slim to nothing because basically its your word against someone else. And thats if the police even care...which they probably won't when it comes down to settling some dispute for peanuts vs nicking some proper criminals.

    Sorry but that my take.

what i don't understand is both of the people are from bradford, the for sale thread had the name simon at the end of it when his name is clearly grant?. Yes i fucked up sending the money but i didn't think that he had been hacked as there are slim chances of somebody being hacked on here to be honest if they can hack somebodys scooter shack account they can hack things with much better ways of earning money?
