Hi. I am speaking to a mechanic about derestriction. He says that a part derestriction involves no parts been added and the full derestriction involves new rollers, clutch springs etc. It they don't add any parts with the part derestriction what do they actually do? Just tinker with the exhort? Thanks, Thom.
probably just take washer/cone out of the exhaust, and whip out the variator washer/restrictor. What bike is it? Some bikes have a throttle slide restricter, air box restricter, inlet or jet restricter or are restricted electronically.
Thanks for the info. Its a 2000 Suzuki TR50 Street Magic. I herd that the Japanese bikes are harder to derestrict than most Italian ones so I thought £25 for part and £55 for full derestriction is quite reasonable.
it is quite reasonable, if you haven't the tools..................... some of those cones in the exhaust are a struggle to get out, without weakening the welds with a dremel. However, I never offset the cost of a tool on one job, many last a life-time, and in the process save you tens of £1000s or make the difference of having wheels or not. I understand not everybody is going to be hands on, but you are a young man and the world is changing economically wise, and the difference between the haves and the have nots is going to increase............. so it's a wise move to understand the mechanics of what you own and have the tools, before vehicle ownership goes exclusively to the haves, through fuel and running costs.
I couldn't agree more. I've just finished my degree and its hasn't got me anywhere, wish I'd done some sort of apprentership where you get experience instead of just letters after your name. I'll start learning about the mechanics of the bike more when I get my own place, had to move back in with the mother who is a ward sister and hates motor bikes. Its taken me about six years to convince her to let me have a 50cc so anything I do has to be done low key, If i start buying tools and tinkering she will start asking questions.
I want loads of tools. My bike has even got a little tool box on the side but I have no good tools to put in. Mite buy one really good tool to put in.
