Oversize piston for Dragster 180

    Hi,

    I have a spare dragster 180 2s barrel in poor condition and would like to bore out and re nikasil. Can someone advise what is a suitable piston, I have read such as Yamaha IT175 or WR200 but cannot find any specifications (pin size, deck height etc) on these pistons other than bore size. Sites such as wiseco and others do not list this information.

    If anyone has done this, what piston was used, and is the pin the exact same size, did you have to hone the rod little end to size for instance. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

    think he's more after a REAL jump in displacment.. too big and they REALLY dont like it. better off going wiht a stockish rebore. the barrels arnt exactly strong tho (mostly made of cheese and tend to shatter)

    whoevers doing the work forr you will be able to scorce the appropriate piston, iuf not, there USELESS, dont give them your barrel

    The only chance of a real jump into bigger cubes is a lot of welding and sleeving.

    Biggest ive heard of (to date ;) ) is MB Developments experiment and that took it to 210cc with long rod and stroking.

    Theoretically, and with a lot of welding to the case and base of barrel I see a possible 250cc coming up, there wont be much left of the original barrel it acting as a carrier for the sleeve with minimal passageways for water cooling, the sleeving will take out so much of the room for tranfers that the base of the barrel and the case will have to be built up with weld just to get enough transfer flow back to make it viable.
    Good lathe man will be able to get any quality jap piston to match the head/squish and skirt as long as gugeon pin off-set and diameter are the same.

    Anyone got a set of cases they might want to sell cheap or donate to get this idea started? :w00t:

    nah, anything more than 57mm stroke and your LITERALLY throgh the cases around the entire crank. structurally its not really an option. well, it is but the work involved is just stupid. better off cutting your own then welding a rear section in to cary the transmission componants. but all this theoretical dreazmery is simply dreaming, if you were to do it it would involv lots of time money and thought aswell as carying huge risks.

    as for laithing a piston down... silicone content in them, alone makes for some ROUGH machining and i for one wouldent dare LOL, especially as most siz pistons for obverbores CAN be purchaced off the shelf (its knowing where the fuck said shelf is)

    im more for a short stroke experiment.. big bore, short stroke, strong and REVVY. if you can get a 150cc to rev to 15,000+ WITH the correct timings/pipe its effectivly the same as a 200cc hitting 10,000rpm... in theory anyway (wortks for f1 cars.. usable poiwer? NAHHH not for me, peak is the goal LOL)

    but back to the matter in hand, if your planning this work you WILL need somone wiht a clue to do this, talk to them, no need for this enquirey tbh as like i said whoever is able to do said work WILL know of the perfect piston be it twin or single ring. if not they REALLY shouldent be doing what there offering to do.

    infact, i MAY havbe a completly fucked OLD series 1 engine (crank case diamneter is too small for an aftermarket crank so is prittymuch scrap to me) let me know if your serious about a shitter to cut up, its not cracked/chunkjs mising, just old seized anfd unable to find a crank wiht the web clearance and i REALLY dont like spindeling the cases... weak as fuck as they are and ive not got 30 years experience wiht a tig like som AHEM :D

    :) i do with a slight chunk of metal out of them but id assume your gona be welding it up anyways they 125 ac cases with gear box and break pads in them the damage is in my project page but i still have the bit of metal that chipped off ive already offered it to shiney though so if hes not intrested yours

    btw was thinkin yesterday what work would need to be done to stick say a 250+ 2 smoke barrel to a 2 smoke auto engine? is it possible and has it already been done..been stuck in my head all day yesterday to a point where i was searchin the net for similar idea

    nsr/cr250/go cart 200/kx100 barrels... all old news as far as the eutro's are concerned (the go cart barrel is a reverse engine with a disc valve.....) basicly it means enlarging the transfer feeds however you see fit, relocating the studs and resetting the deck hight and mabey a change in piston offset to actually get the ports in the right place (can usually space it correctly altho some instances its better to just change the piston offset/conrod length) custom pipe and the like, more somthing to do for the sake of it....

    ye i think i seen on some euro forum they sticking a gocart engine on looked like shit loads of work though i knew it wouldnt be but for some reason i was hoping it would be a matter of getting one and bolting it on lol still if i had the skills and tools id love to have a go at doin a 400 2t ped
