hi everybody i have a very strange situation with my aprilia sportcity if it is idling on the stand for an hour it does not overheat yet as soon as i drive it maybe 8 or 9 miles the temprature goes right up and overheats happened to me this morning at 4. a.m. on a1 had to call rac the rac man was baffled as all the checks he done were inconclusive i have it booked into garage tomorrow but would love to have some idea what could be the possible cause so as to cut down on garage bill any help/info would be appreciated many thanks peter

re overheating when riding my aprilia sportcity .the sport city is water and air cooled rac man checked all liquids and they were fine its just not logical to me how it only overheats when i am riding it i ride it very sensdibly and never thrash it rac man did say that a possibility could be a blockage in the radiator but why does it run for an hour idling with normal temprature thanks for any advice what does the term running lean mean?

Lean is when your getting too much oil in your mixture, if this is the case it can cause it to overheat.

what do you mean water and air cooled???
there could be a blockage if its licquid cooled or and air bubble, its not going to overheat when idleing because its not really doing anything just ticking over

i believe that air cools it when it drives and it has a radiator which cools when no air is cooling it. as you probably gathered i have absolutely no knowledge of the bikes mechanics but would like to be armed with some knowledge when i speak to the garage in the morning to avoid being ripped off, i take on board your comments about blockages that is what rac man suggested so thank you so much for your advice peter

licquid cools the cylinder, the radiator cools the licquid by air so the engine is licquid cooled. were abouts are you from?

What year was the bike made? How many miles has it done?
