This is for a gilera runner 50cc. so a piaggio engine.

    1.drain the cooling system

2.the thermostat is located in the cylinder head. Detach the hose(s) from the thermostat housing if required(Thermostat is next to the spark plug)

3.remove the 2 screws securing the housing and remove it

    4. examine the thermostat before carrying out the test. if it remains in the open position at room temp, it should be renewed.

    5. suspend the thermostat in a container of cold water,. place thermometer capable of reading temp up to 100 degrees celsius in the water so that the bulb is close to the thermostat.

    6. heat the water, noting the temp when it opens and it should open between 69.5 to 72.5 degrees celsius

7.if its jammed shut then you can removed for a short term but the bike will take longer to warm up from cold, but buy a new thermostat asap from your local dealer.
