Just turned over to 23000 miles on my 05 Gilera runner 50 SP, engine is still from 2005 :confused:hock: full recipts of all work that been caried out on it over its whole life, turned out exhaust was fitted at just a ripe 123 miles, carb has been cleaned and tinkered with a couple of times (around £20 a time). I cant belive how many miles this bike has done, is there anything i should be looking out for at this age & mileage?

if the top end aint had a rebuild should have a look at what the rings are saying but then again if it aint broke dont fix it ;)

Aye i have no trouble in this weather. my 50 is fine, starts on the button. 8000 miles/13000km

If its had bearings done im guessing its had the rings so, not really that reliable its just been looked after and cared after well ;) like they should be.

just for the record...ive had well over 30k out of an engine.. nothign to write home about.. ive had a typh wiht 50k on the clock (on original engine numbers) probably rebuilt but i dont know, the engines are GOOD if you leave them alone (stock 125's run forever.. crank usually snap's off on the variator side befor the rest will fail)

Do the piston rings.. because you want to change them BEFORE they go bang because it could cause alot of damage to your engine... if it scratches the bore then thats going to be alot of money and work.

so i would change the rings before they go, then just refresh all the really old bits

23k is piss easy for a piaggio 50 engine! Espessially a liquid cooled engine. These little engines will run for around 30-45k IF maintained correctly and left standard (which 90% are not maintained or left standard). Even an aircooled 50 should push 30-40k. Providing the engine is never thrashed and maintained.

The 4 strokes just get even better. Should see 50-70k (maybe more??)from the 4V liquid cooled 4T leader engine found in the runner VX/VXR 125,180 & 200. And just as good mileage on the 2v aircooled leader engines.

Its those shitty chinese bikes that dont last this long! And to be honist I think it would be hard to get these sort of miles out of peugeot, yamaha and other well known brand scooters.

Piaggio/Gilera have the strongest engines in my eyes.

Like a 90's japanese car, engines go on forever but the rest just falls away.

Yeah the other components are terrible, very unlikely for a chinese bike to pass its first ever MOT without all the bush's and bearings being replaced.

The engines are crap too. Unreliable (worse than a fucking minimoto), and they wont even last as long as a 2 stroke piggy/gilly. Hence why they are 600 brand new lol.
