Just bought a Metrakit Handmade 70 , just wondering whether I will be needing a sport crank for the kit, it's bhp on the dyno is 8.5-11bhp. I heard that anything above 12,000rpm is dangerous to a standard crank so im hoping it doesn't rev much above that. So will I need a new crank or not? My old one is in average used condition Cheers
The thing is when you fit any 70 kit it will cause your main bearings and crank to wear out faster... Even a polini cast iron which produces its power at quite low revs will wear out a std crank and bearings quicker buy a sport crank and a good quality set of bearings before you add a 70 kit, its better to take your engine apart once and do a proper job the 1st time!!
cant remember what year your ped is m8 but standard should be fine and i dout its gunna rev over 12,000 tbh unless you just have stuiped rollers think of phils ped on a stardard crank and how high his revvs are.
shit advice once again.... do as dave said, the crank is the most expensive part to replace, so its worth doing before it takes out any other parts. It's not just rpm which causes a crank to fail, and as dave has said, its not just the crank which can fail, higher capacitiy engine with more power is going to stress the crank and bearings much harder, causing them to wear faster.
Cheers for all the advise so far, due to money restrictions if its not completely necessary just yet to buy a new crank im gonna try and avoid it, this not necessarily being sensible. I'll have to have a look at some sorta cheapy sport cranks or something  Edit--BTW Pimped Aerox it's a 2001
Cheers dave, chances are they wont sell the BGM one's for my bike, they dont sell alot of products for it really haha. But i'll have a look around..
look pimped aerox.. its against the rules and qujite frankly PISSES ME OFF when YOU of all people try give advice.. just fuck off. like REALLY
Hate to bump the thread again but just found a BGM crank http://scooter-center.com/catalog/p...6_188_1756&PHPSESSID=feeb66d8efa727d205f961c1 for not too dear at all, but it say's it's standard..(cant seem to find many cranks for my ped considering it's an x8r!). Does that mean that it wouldn't hold up any better than a normal standard one? Or would it be reliable enough with my 70? Cheers again
