Im trying to set up my scooter variator

I have 4.7 gram weights in it and its pulling off hard i thinki have lost a bit of top end now as they may be to light for my engine but i will live with that

When i get to a hill the power drops off fast
I am wondering if a yellow spring is not strong enough and i should go for a red one as it doesnt seem to drop down quick enough when the torque comes on

The weights are for the engine acleration and the springs are for when the the torque comes on the back wheel am i right

Its only a 50 at the moment and it will be going to a 70cc soon with ported and matched cases

But i just want to get my handle around the finer points of variator tuning
I have read most of the post on here i can find there is just some smaller points i dont understand

Would i be better off going to heavier rollers and and a stiffer rear spring to allow the fron variator to spin out right to the end but keep the back cones together longer and still keep good aceleration

the revs drop off fast when you hit a hill as theres no power there to use. heavier rollers will hold it in a lower gear so will give it an easier time getting up hills but the revs will drop, the contrast spring will only make things worse as more pressure on the rear pulley means more force is needed to move the belt closer to the centre. you say you have read the posts but have you seen the guide on the main page? if this doesent help you with your problem feel free to post back an i can help further.

your probably just revving out of the powerband of the barrel (cylinder) so more power is the best option.

I thought that heavy rollers would make it go to a high gear faster and the stiffer spring would hold it in a lower gear longer

what does the contra spring acctually do? and how does it improve performance

    no, completly the reverse
heavier rollers basicly slow the centrifugal force. so heavier rollers would take more force to fling to the outside of the ramp = lower revs.

the contra spring affects the ratew in wich the belt runs back to the top of the transmission with the throttle CLOSED. only accelleration effect of a contra spring is to stop belt slip but i garantee your belt isnt slipping with a 50 barrel.

just try slightly heavier and drop the revs a little, stock barrels make there power low. altho they rev it doesent mean thewres more power there.

i had that problem with my nrg power after i fitted a performance exhaust, slowed down to about 5-7 mph on a steep uphill, so fucking embarrassing. thankfully i found i needed to fit the rollers which came with the exhaust and it seemed to work
