Right lads I am having a lot of problems with my oil pump on a malaguti F12 50 minarelli and I'm going to replace it but I am finding it hard to find a Gide to do it my self as my local garage is saying 50 pound to fit lol If any one could help me with a Gide or a vid would be gate thanks lads
It depends, what year is the bike? Some later models have Yamaha engines and the oil pumps are different to the Malaguti ones.
It is a 99 t reg and it has the minarelli engine like the Yamaha and its a/c it is the pump what runs of the crank shaft not the one what runs on the rev cable
OK, if it's not the cabled type it's probably the centrifugal type and that makes things a little easier. You need to crimp off the pipes either side of the pump to prevent oil leaking away. Once you've done that, remove the pipes from the pump, unbolt it and remove it. Fit the new pump and bolt it in place. reconnect the pipe from the oil tank and then remove the clip to allow the oil to flow into the pump. Don't connect the carb pipe at this time. Remove the spark plug and then kick the engine over on the kickstart with the ignition off until you see all of the air get forced out of the pump and oil starts to drip out of it. Reconnect the oil line to the carburettor and you should be done. Your engine will always have a little residual two stroke oil in it, so that will provide lubrication until the small amount of air remaining in the pipe is forced out. if you are paranoid about the engine seizing, add 25ml of 2T oil to the fuel for the first tankful so that the small air bubble in the oil pipe to the carb won't matter.
