Hi guys, Have oil leaking from what looks like the exhaust port, I've asked a few friends and they say its nothing to worry about and is normal for 2 strokes...So basically I am just looking for another opinion as I'd hate to leave it and cause some damage due to it. Thanks.
it is normal to have a little oil come through the exhaust, but if its coming from the port it means you have a leaking gasket (well some have that cone thing then just ignore it!)
Ive heard that slow short runs leads to a build up of oil in the exhaust. Maybe try a Hard run to heat that exhaust up and burn off that oil.
Not sure what you mean by the cone thing(new to 2 strokes..) I will try get a decent quality picture to share with you guys. @Derp I do around 6 miles on it on weekdays (3 miles each way) I don't have time to be riding it on weekdays only for going to and from work, I do ride it at weekends for long periods so will be checking to see if any noticeable difference over the weekend.
I think scubabiker means a exhaust cone gasket. Its the shape of the exhaust pipe that self seals. I think thats right. I might be wrong and a long run might make no difference but i remember someone telling me sort runs build up oil deposits. Give it a try. No harm.
I assume I should of mentioned that when it was rebuilt a couple months back(was sat, I've just ran it in not long ago) it was new, hardly had any road time so I assumed it wouldn't fail so quick lol.
My exhaust is self sealing (aftermarket) so ive never had this issue. I assume a new gasket should fix it. Personally i wouldnt worry about it. Just make sure that exhaust is tightened up
Its defiantly tight although I noticed instead of just plain washers it has some kind of spring tension washer instead, not seen this before. I will by all means buy the gasket and replace it over the weekend, nothing to loose, just didn't want unexpected issues with it during the week as need to use for work
Me too, not having much luck with the runner today, noticed the left indicator on the dash was flashing really fast, so checked them and yep, left is flashing at a rapid speed compared to the right side, also seems to have blown the back left bulb, from the little stuff I know, I'd assume its the relay(If anyone cares to confirm this, go ahead please) Also have a noise coming from the side casing, sounds like the clutch is rubbing up against the side casing, tried to pull the casing off to have a quick look but I can't get the thing off for the life of me, beat that thing with a wooden mallet, rubber mallet, hammer and wood, hammer, NOTHING budged the casing near the clutch side, the rest pulls away easily... Ideas please? I hope Stevep sees this and gives me some of his awesome advice!
If the indicator bulb is blown it will flash fast on that side, it's completely normal. Replace the bulb with the same and it should go back to normal. As for the casing, you'll probably find that you've either missed a bolt underneath, or it's sticking on the locating peg at the back. Unless of course you have the rolling nut engine where the nut on the clutch bell comes through the case????
Thanks for the advice Steve I will replace the bulb tomorrow and I am sure I got all the nuts it's also not a rolling nut (see pic below)
I'd definately say its stuck on the rear locating peg then. Leave one bolt in the front near the front of the airbox, and tap it with a rubber or nylon mallet all round the back end. Then just to the rear of the shock there is a raised part on the cover, same thing underneath, firm strikes at both those points. When I say firm strikes, I dont mean whack it and let the hammer bounce off, use enough force to be firm but keep the pressure going through the strike by not letting it bounce off the cover. This will also be dependant on the strength in your wrist.
Thanks Steve, will be having a look again tomorrow on my day off work just wanted some advice before I got mad and battered the casing to death haha.
Ok, so a little update on the left side indicators.. Pulled the back left bulb out(which wasn't working) to get the bulb code, anyhow figured since I couldn't get a new bulb till tomorrow I'd try it in the right side and see what happened, sure enough the bulb lights straight up, so I stick it back in the left side, and bingo, its working in there too.. So I've no idea what the cause it, or if it'll return to not working again.
welcome to the world of motorcycles.... the contacts in the bulb holder are a bit fuzzy/loose its a very common problem with all bikes, just needs a little cleanup/ fix and it will be fine
Well replaced the exhaust gasket, all seems fine. Now onto the noise coming from the side casing.. Is the play in these normal?(See videos below) Also is the belt suppose to be that slack, and is it just me or does it look like the pulley is catching on the side casing?
that belt does look way too slack, also that front pully should have some kind of plastic fan on it if memory serves me right
