Well, I put the 172 engine in today with fresh gaskets.
Spent 7 hours swapping engines and panels and other shit over.
Put new fresh strawberry scented oil in the tank :D
Got on it, rode about 40 seconds down the road and something didn't seem right, you can tell when a bike is running with no oil and that's what it felt like.
Luckily I was right next to halfords as it is literally 1 minute away from mine.
When I pulled in there I got off and looked at the oil pipes, and the oil wasn't going through!?!?!?
Ran into halfords, bougt some castrol or summin, chucked about 500ml in LOL
and started shaking it, I had recently put a fivers worth of petrol (probably 3 litres these days LOL)
and put a new plug in whilst I was there, started it back up 1st kick, and white smoke was coming from the pipe so didn't think much more of it, although I rode that minute or so with no oil
Off the line it was fucking quick till it hit 20mph then coughed, spluttered and bogged out and god knows what else, I thought this may of been the jetting?
Pulled down a side road to see what was going on, I could full rev it from standstill and it would pull superbly, as soon as it got to 20ish it would be a cunt, so I turned around to go back home and then....
cough.... pop.... BANG...... Hmmmm I can smell piston rings...

Taking it my rings have gone as there is fuck all compression and wont start, so gonna have a look over the weekend.

Also, a quick question. my set up is
    Malossi 172 kit
Malossi variator, dont no what rollers
    PM55 pipe
Open filter, any clue as to what size jet? I dont have a clue :emb:

oil wont shake through.... you need to bleed the sys and run premix for a tank when you swap engines (unless the pump is primed but tis hard to trust theres no lil air bubbles in the pump.)
running a bike with no idea on jetting or rollers is never a good idea. could well be youve just got it rich and its killed the plug (u wanna hope so) if not then ye dead kit...

When I pulled over there is shit loads of petrol coming from the air intake rubber thing, and the plug was wet black oil?
I quickly took the needle out and was 1 from the bottom so wasn't running rich?
When I got the bike it ran sweet as a nut, surely the pipe wouldn't make it run funny as they say you dont need to upjet for it?
Gonna look at the weekend and see what the damage is. :(

    ya rings are fucked.
Bet ya didnt oil up the barrel with 2 stroke before u rebuilt the top end?
You should always run a premix when doing what u done as minor said,
did u hook the throttle cable into the oil pump?
an again as minor said bleed it.
You wanna hope you aint completely fucked tha nikasil plating in the barrel or ur looking at having to buy another 172 kit

befor you go digging about in the engine slam a new plug in and throw some oil in with the petrol.. bit in the plug hole never hurts altho it will smoke. white smoke is NOT oil, its usually burning water.

Yes I oiled the barrel when I put it on.
Yes I connected the oil cable up.
I have never heard about bleeding the oil so did not think it was required.
How do you go about bleeding it then?

Will try that tomorrow ;)

you also have to remove the small pipe from the pump and carb, suck oil up with a seringe then piut it back on, this wil prittymuch illiminate all but the small air bubble left in the pump. still worth a lil premix just to be sure the first tank full after an engine rebuild/refit

Okay, thanks for the help guys.
Also had a quick think to my self. When I changed the spark plug over at halfords I only did it up hand tight as I couldnt get anything in there to do it up with, only had a impact gun and mole grips under the seat LOL
So that might of unscrewed its self, as the same thing happened on my 70 and made the same sort of bang???
Gonna get the oil pump sorted today though.
    Cheers.
