Rite guys, this is gonna be a long one and there is a video to go with it as well, So i shall start from the beginning and try and give as much info as i can, so here goes Few weeks ago the engine in my mc3 ac died, bought another running engine and fitted everything (engine didnt come with a carb as it had already been sold) I fitted the carb off the old engine but that wa leaking and i couldnt find new seals for it, so i bought a new carb (direct replacement) and fitted that, since then i have been trying to set the carb up and been having no luck what so ever, no matter what i do (jets, needle, idle mix) it just seems to continuously run ritch and splutter bog and backfire, At the minute im just waiting for the vid to upload so i can show you guys exactly whats happening If you read all that then i really appreciate your dedication Thanks for any help
Yeah its auto choke (and thats new as well) and i assume the timing is ok as it was running before it was removed? Am i wrong to think that?
If you haven't disturbed the crank sensor then yes, you're OK. I would suspect the auto choke. Take it off and make sure that the choke jet is clean and that there is no corrosion in the choke cylinder. Try the bike with the choke fitted but disconnected and see if that helps matters.
The carb is brand new and i have tried it with it both connected and disconnected, i have been pulling my hair out with it for weeks following guides for setting them up allong with help from other peoples posts, i have not touched the stator side of things apart from connecting it up?
OK, so the mixture is way too rich. Is the fuel tap working correctly? If it's a diaphragm type, the diaphragm may have a split in it and may let fuel back through the vacuum line, causing a rich mixture. Edit: Is that fuel or water that's dripping from the exhaust? If it's water, you may have a warped cylinder head.
Well i took the vac pipe off and it has been wet a couple of times but i have sucked on it but dont get any petrol from it, is it worth changing to a manual tap? The diaphragm tap was new a couple of months ago?
A manual tap would rule out fuel getting back down the vacuum line, but what's dripping from the tailpipe? Your machine is liquid cooled, isn't it? Did you use any old gaskets or O rings when you changed the head over?
Have you had the carb apart to check it? It may have dirt in the float jet and it keeps letting fuel through, as the needle can't close properly. Take the carb off, drain it and check that all of the jets are clean and clear, including the folat jet.
Yeah i have had it appart several times to change the jets, and all is clean as a whistle and seating properly, i have taken it from the standard 65 jet down to a 52 jet and its still the same, i have also moved the clip up on the needle but still the same, Im gonna order a manual tap for the fuel line and will also put brand new fuel line in at the same time, anything else i should do/check?
Yeah, check the carb float height and that it's closing the needle jet. Once the fuel's had a chance to evaporate out of the carb, blow down the fuel line into the carb while raising the floats and make sure that the needle jet closes off the flow of air being blown in as they reach the top. If they don't close the needle valve, it explains as to why too much fuel is getting through as the carb is on the point of overflowing. Check the air filter too and try starting it without the air filter to see if that helps matters.
Okai thanks merlin will check the float is opperating properly tomorrow and i will fit the fuel tap when that arrives, When i fit the manual fuel tap do i need to plug the vacuum connection on the carb or just leave it open ?
The vacuum pipe for the fuel tap runs from the carb on your bike? On my TKR and most Peugeots, it runs from the carb manifold.
