    Almost identical problem to me!
I went to post a thread and saw you've written it for me

My headlights and brake lights work once engine is running, the only light on dash is the light indicator, although my fuel guage does work, I thought it wasn't, then I ran out of fuel and figured it out! :p

when I apply the rear brake the fuel indicator starts to drop, so I am thinking there is a bad earth somewhere?

I also bought a new regulator but that didn't help, just bought a new starter relay as that came apart on me, so I am hoping the earthing problem could be in there, will let you know

I ran a voltmeter on an indicator and there was some juice going to it, then the loss when applying the brake, would be interested if you are getting the same symptom

    p.s sorry this isn't a solution...

    Been there. seen this.

Donna's Peugeot V-Click had this problem recently and it turned out to be that a multi-pin plug had come undone inside the front fairing. Her bike had been dropped and the impact pulled the plug out. On her bike, it was a blue multi-pin connector.

Have you checked the inline fuse from the battery? If that's blown, you'll lose all of the indicators, horn, brake light, electric starter and fuel gauge.

The head and tail lights work off the generator and don't use the battery, so don't take those into account.

Check the fuse, check all block connectors between the battery and handlebars then check all earth (usually green) wires, to make sure they are connected to clean metal and are tightly attached.

Took all the panels off thoroughly cleaned all the plugs
Found quite a few loose connections all over the bike
I think these bikes have a circuit like christmas lights one loose connection everything goes .
Once i did all this all the lights , gauges work but when i turn the key petrol light and oil light dont show up (red and orange light) anymore like they use to any suggestions?

Well, they are designed to warn you of low oil and petrol and if both are full, then the lights will be off. I don't think it's broken so try it and see how you get on.

I just had this on an nrg as well.
No rear o/s indicator, no starter motor, half the dash didn't work, turned out somebody had cut 6 of the earth wires in the loom and twisted them together and then used black insulation tape to cover them.
Once i found the lump in the loom, (behind the right seat panel) and cut the corrosion out and fitted them to a multiplug instead of soldering them, everything worked again.

I'm going off my experience with my TKR 2. The warning light for the oil tank doesn't come on until the level is low in the tank on my bike. The ignition light comes on and goes off when I turn the key.

Check the connections to the CDI unit and ignition switch, as it can only be one of these two that is causing the problem. Can anyone else with more experience of Piaggio machines help out with more advice please?
