Hi Guys What an interesting morning I am having, managed to get to work barely, half way into my journey to work my scooter loses power and becomes non responsive and then lots of backfires, then it is start stop, very jerky for the next mile, thought it was fuel, 2 bars left, thankfully i was beside petrol station almost, topped up, tried to start and it was struggling, finally it leapt into life, managed to get up a hill but then more back fires and then it get embarressing as traffic is accumulating behind me, i am reving but nohing but small jerks of life, continued like this for a bit until it picked up, got scooter parked at work but obviously going to be tricky when I have to go home, PLEASE NOTE : had scooter 5 months, I have always noticed theat is a bit spluttery on a cold start but this normally clears after a couple of miles, maybe there is something underlying, I would be so grateful for some advice and guidance here, I know nothing about scooters, hope it nothing major.thanks in advance. kind regards Paul
Sounds like it's overfueling either by being overjetted or a dirty air filter. Backfiring is usually caused by unburnt fuel getting into your exhaust system then igniting. Have a look at your air filter and your spark plug . If the filters really grubby and oily replace or clean it. If the plug is black and sooty do likewise.
Cheers for that, I will have a thorough look later, I am hoping it gets me home, lol, many thanks for your response. regs Paul
its the bottom part of the carb, usually held on by 2 screws. any crap in there could partially block the jet.
