Hey, i was thinking of sticking a 172 engine in my NRG.. would be a nice project id like to do. If i do this.. will i have to change the cdi unit and stuff? i am thinking of just buying a rolling nut engine and whacking it on? what other changes will i have to make? thanks.
looooooool do you just wanna "whack it in" and die..yeah?! :glare: use the Search you'll get all the answers plus why you shouldn't just "whack it in" if you are doing a conversion!
Not literally stupid shit.. i mean buy a rolling nut engine and fitting it on by swing arm but im more bothered about other bits i might have to change ie the cdi unit, bigger radiator, pump etc?....
well i hope your talking about your own stupidity about opening a new thread thats been covered in detail numerous times and p.s. i only said "bang it in and die" because i personally know someone who done just that and there mounts snapped on a dual carriage way at some fuck off speed the little 50 frame couldn't handle and there not here anymore due to a brain heamorage... r.i.p. Littlez and because you asked if you could use 50cc electrics on a 125 engine i had to wonder whether you was going to do a proper conversion or build a deathtrap ringer like most others. There is loadsss of things you have to change to do it legally and safely gonna cost you more than buying a second hand runner...Search and you will see bruv. only trying to help/advise you
I know what you mean man :/, i see where your coming from and i know it will cost a lot but i like to be different because over here there are thousands of 172 on 125 peds. i would get it all checked over and done with my uncle as hes a good engineer. yeah but just because that's happened its not just going to stop me doing it all together just think ahead on building the frame up stronger etc. Its like my dad died riding a bike because of a fucking lorry driver pulling out but it didn't stop me from riding which was a bit unexpected by others. I'm not going to not do something because someone along the line who has done it did it wrong.
You basiclly need an ENTIRE Typhoon 125 to complete the conversion properly. So you might aswell just buy a 2T 125 instead of trying to convert a 50. Your'll need to modify the 50's engine mounts to accept the 125 engine, then you have to find a way of re-enforcing them otherwise they WILL break, a 125 engine will chew up 50 engine mounts in no time. And as said above, its most likely to happen when your going fast down a carrage way which means your almost certainly gonna die. Then the forks, handle bars, clocks (unless your good at wireing), loom, possibly wheels, and aload of other things i cant think of right now, too much work envolved to get it right and through an mot. So yea might aswell just buy a 125. Theres loads floating around right now, get one while you still can!
yeah yeah that's all fine i just needed to know what will i have to change, reinforcing the thing is not a problem. just the fiddly things like wiring, brakes etc. It could well work out a lot cheaper, i can get second hand engine between 100-200. and then i can get a spares repair scooter for around 150 ish . thanks anyway, i like to be different :L its either this project for the summer or im thinking of getting an rs125/Mito ;D
putting 125/172 engines into 50 frames has been written about sooo many times, stop being lazy and do a search...
Thats because you want a complete guide but nobody has ever really made one because its alot of work to do without having to take millions of pictures.. Your'll never get the thing road worthy, getting the engine in and running is easy but making it ride properly and pass an mot is another story. Your have problems with the engine hitting the frame, crazy vibrations because the engine mounts are completely different, trouble with the front and rear wheels being out of alignment.. the geometry of the bike will be ruined because your'll be running the wrong forks, bars and shock for the frame. Its hard work mate, buy a 125.
I will disagree with all off you, a runner 172s or typhoon these days cost around a grand, my nrg 172 malossi cost me |£200 in total, and is noo bodge, it took 3weeks to build and flew throw a m.o.t, and its been on road for nearly 6months, what you dont relise is that if you do it right it works fine, and is alot faster than a gilera as nrgs are lighter,, ill up load a picture of my bike now
